***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

So can Android users everywhere effectively 'add' (Wikipedia style) to Google earth/maps and build up a user documented picture sphere database of the entire globe added to streetview etc?

Such a clever idea on Googles part.

Anyway enough delivery/whinging crap!!!

I seem to recall that photosphere "images" would be viewable via google maps and also google+ (maybe using some sort of flash/gl plugin like streetview uses?).

Can someone elaborate and demo how this feature works and upload something?

rp2000

They are view-able on G+ I can't upload due to obv reasons but scroll down a bit and you will find a collection here : https://plus.google.com/u/0/110023707389740934545/posts

Open an Image and click on the sphere icon at the bottom right and then magic :)

I'm trying to get angry with Google for the epic fail launch but can't seem to bring myself too......the phone is still very good plus cheap and still will be in a months time.......just a shame Google could not pull off a clean launch to really show Apple how it can be done....

Ya I would think so just like geo tagging, imagine the rapid cost free street view development for google !

These have been uploaded by google staff (I think?). I want to see a "real" one form one of the nexus 4 owners here. I am sure I read they can be uploaded to google maps as well.

(p.s. Is your obvious reason that you didn't get a phone?)

Me too tbh. I have managed to borrow a used iPhone to tide me over short term. The people in this thread make me angrier than google :)

a) The forum members who admit to selling theirs on ebay, and now we see other forum members getting a 3 week delay, partially as a result!
b) The people who keep slating the phone that they don't even have and are basing on reviews. (If you don't want the phone jog on to the next thread :) )
c) The forum members with phones who don't seem to be providing many pictures, photo spheres and phone info (if only for the sake of keeping the thread full of useless non repetitive content !! )

Yup that's the reason.

I am sure people other than google staff should be able to upload as well.. But we will need someone to do it and share, it can be done that's for sure :)

Takes ages to charge via usb!

Anyone know how to make the default messaging app turn the screen on when you get a message?

Mine just changed from "Pending" to "Complete"\"Shipped" with shipped email.

At 23.31PM Thursday (few mins ago).

My order went through finally about 8.25AM-8.27AM (after hammering the hell out of it going through the same crazy frustration everyone else went through).

Mine charged super fast plugged into the mains though, so seems thats the way to go for charging!

I downloaded an app to check the phone for back-light bleed and it fairs pretty well, have to say in normal use there's 0 evidence of back-light bleed however if you look closely there is some when you use a dedicated app to check it.

I'm trying to be angry with Google and I'm succeeding spectacularly, whoever is responsible for this complete shambles are a bunch of absolute halfwits, and they've made their company look pathetically bad. I've never experienced such a poor launch before, I'm used to being an early adopter of tech, phones, tablets, consoles, etc, etc, honestly never seen this much of a **** up on launch though. Everything they could have gotten wrong, they've gotten wrong. Poor show.

Well this is whats gone to google, given they've sent me a back order email but still showing today as shipping estimate

"As google play order status shows this is being shipped TODAY the 15th Nov, I assume the email I received tonight about a 3 week delay was NOT relevant to me? I'm sure you're a competent company who can manage the demand for a new product and wouldn't show me one thing on google wallet and google play but email me a COMPLETE CONTRADICTORY message saying it could be 3 weeks until the device you promised 2 days ago would be with me in 3-5 days!

Please let me know my order status and reflect the efficiency of your customer service as soon as possible!

Thanks

Graham"

EDIT: And here is their response

"Orders are shipped within two business days of placing your order, and will be delivered upon two additional business days of processing.

According to our records, your order should ship by the evening of November 15.

Upon receiving your shipping confirmation email, you'll be given a tracking number that will assist you in determining your package's estimated delivery date. Please note that it might take up to 24 hours before the tracking number returns any information.

For more information on shipping and delivery, please see this article in our help center:

I completely agree. This phone, with its specs, features and insane price point could have been incredibly successful if they managed its launch properly. Firstly, by not having enough they've already ****ed a lot of people off. Secondly by not putting a quantity limit all it means is people are buying as many as possible and selling them for S3 sim-free prices!

Absolutely insane. Google have lost a lot of respect from me for this.

My theory is lg kicked up a fuss, stocks going to places cpw, O2 etc which will sell easily going by the prices nutters are paying on eBay, whilst google trickle sell their units for 3 weeks til they can sell en masse. This bad publicity won't hurt them, it is still a great phone at a great price which will sell masses pre Xmas. Any publicity is good publicity, people wil talk about nexus4 more now than if they had a smooth stock plentiful launch.

Oh and scalpers suck, if you've made some cash doing it good for you but keep it to yourself.

Pretty sure they do it on purpose.
iPhone launches are the same. Nintendo Wii was the same too. Sell outs make the news, which generates more interest.

I don't mind the ones that buy one, see the massive mark up and decide to tell. What pees me off is the ones that by a shedload purely to sell on. If I were Google I would bid on them all to win, get the guys details, then use that to track him and put him on the three week back order :D

Maybe so but its definitely creating more negative news than positive.

It's making their phone even more desirable to some people now due to supposed lack of supply. The only real negative news they'd worry about would be if the phone was pap or a major engineering flaw was found after release.

I agree with you in regards to the "getting bad publicity is cool and free" thing that these companies do, the fact the N4 sold out quickly isn't really the gripe here though, it's more the fact that they accepted orders, got peoples hopes up and then made them wait the best part of three days to the day we were expecting delivery (according to the UK Google Play store) to smack us in the face with a Google flavoured wet fish. Seriously, if they couldn't fulfil our orders should it really have taken them this long to tell us?

Seriously, this has wasted so much of my time, the disappointment is unreal...

This is not the same. Joe Public does not even know this phone exists, seeing as it isn't in most high street stores. There has been no publicity. The big press event was cancelled. The only people who know it exists and about the "sell out" and delays are tech sites and forums. The thing was announced with standard press releases afaik.

It's a simple case of they didn't have much stock or most was reserved for USA.

I know people keep saying "how come xxx company can do big launches" etc but this was a very low key launch in no way comparable to iPhones/Wiis and "real" mass market devices (which to my recollection none of the nexus phones have ever been, although it could be argued that the Nexus 7 is trying to change that)

As rp2000, I'm amazed the phone managed to sell out, there isn't even a mention of it selling out on on BBC, Guardian or Telegraph websites selling out.
