***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

The only reason to drop the S3 for the Nexus 4 really is pure android/timely updates.

Maybe the build too cause I think the S3 looks ugly as sin! But that is my opinion.

Aye the reason I wanted to was that I still have a year and half on contract with s3 jut it really isn't a good looking phone and does lag in some games etc. Nexus so cheap I can trade in s3 and put like to 40 towards a better looking phone that was meant to be more powerful.

But apparently as pointed out the nexus had corners cut in the build quality and components and screen keeps getting slammed. Also performance wise is falling though that's benchmarks and I still have hopes would run games better than s3. Also wireless charging etc is a plus so can get the new phone feeling to play out rest of contract. Just now people getting them and putting up impressions I am not as confident in the change as I was..

I dunno, I still have order placed At mo

If the GS 3 had the same design as the note II or better (as you probably know...... I do not like the design of the GS 3 at all :p), then no I wouldn't take it over the nexus 4.

Wording got me there, you would prefer a better designed s3 or would still take the nexus?

Be nice if some people that have moved from s3 could give their impressions. Also if anyone is playing gta3 on their nexus do you get any slow downs?

Im just going to use the DSR period to evaluate mine and return it if Im not happy with the '*-grade'. Hmm just noticed Google Play have a 15day return window - wonder if that includes a restocking fee or something like that....

ps3ud0

No slow downs on GTA3 for me pretty damn smooth! But i haven't played a whole lot of it.

Benchmarks don't really mean jack, The overall performance of the phone in everyday use is just fine.

So the "ships in 6-7 weeks" isn't exactly true? ie. I could order one today and get before xmas?... if I'm lucky?

Hmm, let's see... I ordered on Saturday morning (~0100) when it was showing 6-7 weeks, and it's only showing as order received in Wallet...

Google Now is a great feature on the Nexus 4. For those that have not seen the commercial, I like it---Nexus: Ask Me Anything:

It is pretty cool, it's not a Nexus thing thankfully, it's a Jelly Bean thing.

Shame the 'Google' hotword is US only (for now?) for some reason. You can use it if you set the voice search language to EN-US, but then it doesn't work as well as you don't have a silly accent :D

Aye well for the most part it runs fine on gs3, but then sometimes it just gets really laggy and is annoying as gs3 was the 'flagship' phone.

Really do prefer the design of the nexus its just whether i am downgrading from an s3 that bothers me.

I had an S3 until last week when I got the Nexus and in no shape or form do I consider it a downgrade.

Why would you think it is a downgrade?

Weird indeed, it's a complete raffle.

I ordered around 8pm on Tues 4th and I'm still pending.

Hoping it just arrives at work one day though :D

Just the screen and the 'quality' of the device. Doesnt samsung use high quality parts in its phones? There was some sort of breakdown of the nexus showing where corners have been cut.

If it doesnt affect real world use i dont care overly much i am never going to open up my phone and look at the chips lol.

Also if the throttling issue is as bad as it seems to be it worries me for playing games etc. I think i will just wait n try it out if i ever receive mine.

How will knowing what brands of parts used in a phone affect your buying choice.

Knowing who makes the caps, pcbs and microchips means sweet FA.

It's about how the phone runs as a system day to day not how big your components e-peen is.

I'm finding the quality of the N4 better than my S3. Maybe the early batch of S3 wasn't as good, but the quality of my S3 was poor. There was quite a big gap around the bezel of the screen, which trapped dirt. The paint on the frame and home button started to come off after 2 weeks.

The only screen issue here is people preferring the over saturated colours the Amoled screens like on thS3 give you. It's a much of a muchness in the grand scheme of things.

In terms of the quality – I’d say that this is probably one of the best built Android devices ever. Definitely has a premium feel to it.

It certainly got a lot of interest at my OH’s Christmas event over the weekend. People couldn’t believe the price of it.

I've been using this since Saturday, and it's a really nicely built phone. At first I thought it was too big when I saw one in the shop, but when you actually use it, it's a great size. Does anyone have any tips on where to get some nice backgrounds, or how to make them? I believe they have to be 960x800. Is that right? What's the best way to crop a large image to that resolution, so I can make one from a desktop background?

The issue about Google cutting corners is not to do with where they get the parts or what parts they get, but how they have put the phone together cheaply, like using tape to hold some stuff together etc. And due to that, there could be problems in the long or the phone being more likely to break something on the inside when dropped I.e. They cut out a lot of stuff to do with the wifi, blue tooth and network signal so if the method that Google used instead of doing it properly like other manufacturers you could run into problems with those things in the future.

The actual feel of the device in terms of build and perceived quality sounds great, I wouldn't say the best though, imo HTC are still the best for the Android handsets especially with their phones that use an aluminium uni body like the one s.

is there a single post where you don't mention htc? :(

People are commenting on the build and perceived quality of the nexus 4 compared to other phones so I thought I would give my 2p, I have also brought up Samsung many times and how I dislike their design/looks and their build/perceived quality, but for some reason that doesn't matter? (well apart from some of the Samsung phone owners riding in to the rescue.......)

Do you mean skimping on the aerial/signal processing hardware or the integration of said hardware?

Are we talking poor signal from new or the possibility of of movement/poor connections developing over time and affecting signal?
