*** The official M4 MacBook Pro thread (it has the M4 chip, 16Gb, AI and everything!) ***

Thanks fella. I'm used to lugging around a 17" Alienware station so maybe the mass won't affect me, really need to be able to see my wide spreadsheets clearly and worried the smaller 14 inch screen won't give me enough real estate (or I need stronger glasses!! Hahahaaaa!!!!)
Do you have an Apple Store near you? They will have both models on display and you can browse the web, change display settings etc. Might give you a better idea.

Mine came today :)

Went for the 16/40 model with 48GB. Crazy performance, seems to outperform my gaming PC (4070) on a CPU heavy game like WoW (not that that I got it for gaming!).

I have the M4 Max 16C/48GB/1TB unit too, to replace my aging and now utterly obsolete M3 Max 48Gb/1TB. Feels...cleaner? The keyboard doesn't look as used, and so far the screen has no fingerprints.

A worthy upgrade.

Enjoy mate, is this your first Apple based silicon Mac? I've got the M3 Pro MBP and it's performance is crazy don't think I've even used 10% of what it's capable of nevermind the newer M4!

You can play WoW on mac? INteresting. No. No I can't. I broke the habit after lich king and going back would be nothing short of a guarantee that i'd get nothing else done.

Welcome to mac!

WoW is as native app on M series CPUs! Runs lovely, even on an M1 Mac mini… on my M3 Pro MBP it’s buttery on both the internal display and when I run it docked to an external 2560x1440 monitor!

That's genuinely tempting, as i have a bunch of old uni mates asking if i want to set up our guild again now that we've grown old disgracefully on classic.

I actually upgraded from the base model M3 Pro 16'', no real reason tbh, hunger for power.. The M3 Pro was indeed rapid!

One thing I have noticed is the temp increase, the M4 Max definitely runs much hotter but I assume its fine, the fans never seem to kick in over 50%.

In regards to WoW, I expect it runs so much better than my PC is because of the single core performance vs my 12900K. Hoping for many more native mac apps though! Nice to be able to play on the move..

Well the trigger has been pulled.
Unbinned 14” 24gb/1tb.
The base Pro would have done me but I was tempted by the 1tb and the cheapest I could find that was through the pre-BF sale at KRCS which was £1970.
However, took a chance on the Very new customer discount which is the full 20% so got said unbinned model for £1923 down from £2399 :D

I've just discovered KRCS and will be using it in the future, those are some meaty prices. Please remember to allow pathetic addicts like myself to live vicariously by recording the unboxing experience.

Yeah they have been gaining a lot of traction this past year or so - it may have been longer but they’ve only come to my attention in this time.
I was all set for the base 14 M4 Pro from them this morning for the sale price of £1799 but then I started to think I needed more tangible upgrades from my base 16” M1 Pro which is why I opted for the 1tb model.

How do we get the 20% off ? Is it on top of any reduction they have on?

KRCS currently have 10% off across the board for Black Friday.
Very have a 20% off deal for new customers who open a credit account with them. Often in the past, MacBooks were either excluded from this offer or it was only 10%.
One of the terms with Very is that the 20% is not valid with other offers i.e. sale items. But the Macbooks are currently full price so no issues there.

Is anything on the M1 actually upgradable?

I'm pretty sure you need a unidays or NHS ID for that discount. i think if you're in the armed forces you might be eligible too?

As in upgradeable on the unit itself? I'm pretty sure not. What I meant was I wanted to make sure I was upgrading as much as I could when moving to the M4 Pro. The way I see it is there was little point moving to M4 Pro if I was going to keep RAM and SSD the same. At least this way I'm getting an upgrade in all departments (aside from the screen).

In relation to KRCS and Very see my above reply. You are right though that there are more discounts to be had at KRCS if you are a Student and possibly NHS.

KRCS don't give you any sort of NHS on top of the 10% sitewide. I just ordered a mac mini from them with the 10% off but NHS wasn't changing the price at all.
