** The Official Mac OS X Leopard First Impressions and Review Thread **

Hey Guys!

What's the title of this thread called, when i pop in here i forget its a First Impressions thread. Seems like a Vista Vs. Leopard thread. I frankly don't care about vista so can we move this "argument" somewhere else?

If you don't have leopard move on! :p

Well to be fair it started as a few first impressions drawing some parallels in a fairly fun way with Vista on release. Apparently though some people seem to think comparing the two latest OS on release and having a civilised discussion is asking two much over here in Mac only land. /shrug

That's fair enough dude! It doesn't bother me. I know you meant it to pick fun all in jest.

Just kinda the wrong thread to do it in, maybe someone should start a new one named Leopard and Vista Launch similarities or something. I dunno.

Ok first off I still a mac noob but since upgrading to Leopard today I have had a slight problem with accessing windows network shares. The help files tell me they should be under the share tab in finder, but I have no share tab even though it is turned on in the options.

Can someone kindly point me in the right direction of how to access the shared folders on my windows pc.

You could do the same with Vista upgrade, what's your point?
You can buy an UPGRADE version of Vista and install it from a blank drive (without XP to upgrade from)? I'd like to see that.

Vista OEM comes with instructions, and normal web / newsgroup / online support, you just can't raise a voice support call direct with MS.
As far as I remember an OEM disk comes in a sleeve, and nothing else. You may be able to view online PDFs for Vista, but saying they 'come with instructions' is a bit far fetched.

Wow, you get really upset that someone might have had a fun dig at an OS don't you. I suggest you try to get out more...
I'm not upset, just pointing out that your 'negative' points about Leopard are all founded off what you've read off the net, and no personal experience.

I saw that your initial comments were made in jest, but someone countered the argument with valid points and you turned on the crap-tap, and let the bullcarp flow.

You can either "Connect to Server" under the menubar (Apple + K) or you can do it from a side bar in the new Finder.

Ok how exactly do i do it from the sidebar? presumed i would need to see the share tab and add something to it... but because it's not there i was a bit lost. Also will the connect to server option work as it is just a normal pc share I am trying to access not a server?

Snipped confused ranting about stuff....
Actually forget it. I've deleted my long reply as you're clearly just out to be rude, agressive and ignorant. Any attempt to explain what I was saying is an exercise in futility faced with that level of rabid "fanboyism" (yay for inventing words).

I have Leopard. It's great but the reflective dock on the bottom sucks. Thank god I have it on the side!

Apparently this will enable the same style used on the vertical dock for the horizontal dock. Not sure how to get it back again though!? ;)

And... you have it on the side eh? nudge-nudge, wink-wink, say no moarr, saaay no moarr!

Ahem... sorry!

Under the Devices menu on the left of your finder window you should see a arrow with Shared next to it. If this is not expanded then click on it to expand it. You should see your Windows machines here.

If not press Apple-K in Finder and connect that way...

I'll admit I laughed too, but I got a sour taste of fanboy-ism that doesnt do the Mac community any favours. :o

Maybe I'm reading too much into it. No beer and no TV make theheyes something something...

Just got around to installing this on my Macpro, im absolutely loving Spaces on my MBP pressing F8 was a chore, but on the Macpro as I use an Intel Explorer v3 and which has the 2 little buttons on the left, one for Expose and the other for Space... perfect...
