You could always grab a small USB-A hub. Or what monitor are you using, they often have USB hubs built in.
I've used that to set it down to the lowest speed and only start speeding up if the temperature reaches 40°C. Lovely jubbelyMac Fan Control
Aye, it’s frankly incredible. I’m really trying to cut energy usage at the moment so I’m even shutting mine down when not using it. I’ve never done that before, I’ve always just put Macs to sleep.I measured the power consumption
Except the Studio still doesn’t always sleep properlySleep is nearly irrelevant these days with the speed of booting plus the applications loading.
I did that recently.Another option is to buy an M2 enclosure and then buy your own M2 drive. That's what I do for all my external SSDs. They'll be about £25 if you want 10Gbps USB but if you want thunderbolt they'll be £100 or more.
I don’t know if it was the enclosure or the ssd itself that was the cause of the slowdown but as you see, I just returned them both because I couldn’t be arsed to investigate further at the time. I bought the Orico enclosure because that specific one was mentioned on LTT.I'm never buying Orico products as I've always had an awful experience with them.
Ahh yes, I see. I've just ordered it. I'm away for a few days so will go nvme hunting when I get back. There's a cheaper one as well (looks to be the same unit but only with type C cable and about £8 cheaper with a voucher).
Good spot. I won't buy another one of those thenAs per tom's hardware, the big negative is sustained write performance
