*** The Official macOS Big Sur thread ***

Useful tip because with a dark wallpaper, I didn't like the black menu.

I loaded my wallpaper into photoshop, adjusted the canvas size by 44 pixels height and set the absolute position of the image to centre bottom with the background set to white. That saved my background image at 44 pixels taller with a white bar along the top.

Changed my desktop wallpaper to point at that image and bingo, I've got a white menu bar bar with no need to faff around with reduced contrast.

So far Big Sur has destroyed my battery on MBP 2016 15" - it constantly sits at 85c now and battery is flat in under 2 hours - very annoyed, its been on since launch day, id have thought it would have finished sorting its file system etc out by now.
Have you looked in Activity Monitor (or just run 'top' in terminal) to see what's loading it up? You've got a rogue process somewhere that's thrashing it.

I did my 2016 12" MB last week and I've not noticed any difference in performance issues or battery life between Big Sur and Catalina.

Copy and paste has been fine for me between iPhone 12, iMac and M1 MBA. iCloud tabs is a different matter though. Sometimes they’re there, other times they’re not. It’s very random.

OK, I'm an idiot. Safari (iCloud) tabs is working on my M1 MBA. It's just that I hadn't dragged the icon for them onto the toolbar! I'm so used to accessing them that way on my iMac that I hadn't realised I'd added that icon manually. Now I've put it there and they're working.

Bartender has been mentioned in this thread, the latest update allows you to reduce the spacing between menu icons back to how it was in Catalina which is a huge improvement.

11.2 is now out - Get it via Software Update. There is no combo update.

It’s more stable than Catalina was for me.

/edit - that’s on my old 2016 MacBook and my 2017 iMac. I can’t compare it on the M1 MBA for obvious reasons.

Not that Catalina was bad, this just feels more solid.

Anyone able to help me out, I'm trying to find out what speed I'm connected to my wifi at as it's started running slowly for some reason.
Not quite what you're after but I have this on my MBA.

It sits in the menu and I have a constant display that shows me band, strength and speed. It's very customisable and I just find it handy sometimes. It's the only system monitor type thing I use.

/edit - I've just noticed I can make it go over two lines so it takes up less space, that's even better.
