It has the new 'dark mode' which people are getting excited about. I have to say that I'm not particularly interested in that but I'll give it a try. The dynamic desktop looks interesting (but possibly just a gimmick). Stacks is irrelevant to me as my desktop is empty for 99% of the time.

I'm interested in the News app - But then I thought the same with the News app when it hit iOS and I never use it.

This seems more of a point upgrade than a full new OS from what I've read and I'm looking forward to the Ars Technica detailed review that normally appears on release.

It's available now - Hitting refresh in the Mac App Store didn't bring it up but following this link works. I'm downloading it now.

Excellent, I guess it just takes a few minutes for the store to update because it wasn't there when I did a search. It's not the fastest download in the world but that's not too surprising. I'll be doing my usual trick of creating a bootable USB stick before I actually do the upgrade.

Here is the Ars Technica review I mentioned in the top post. At thirteen pages long, it's a big read.

Can you link some tips on a fresh install? My new iMac has Sierra so wanna fresh-install upgrade.
Nope. I never, ever do a fresh install. The only reason I'm using an iMac now with an OS that was a new build a year ago is because I bought a new Mac!

So an upgrade will not be much more “problematic “ than a fresh install?
Not as far as I'm aware. Quite a few years ago I did a rebuild on my old iMac simply because I wanted to try it and there was no difference in performance that I could notice from a machine that had been through five or six major OS updates.

One thing to remember, when the point updates come out, always download the combo update rather than the delta. The combo is just a more belt and braces way to update. However the .1 update is never a combo, by definition, it can't be ;)

I always do. It’s force of habit that when a new OS is released, I always write a bootable USB stick and chuck it on the shelf. I don’t use it, I just run the installer. I suppose it’s so I’ve got it, just in case I need it.

I seem to remember I could hit the space bar to view pictures in the Photos app, that's gone.

Fonts have been fine for me, both on MB and iMac using Safari. On the iMac, I've checked both the main retina screen and my second monitor which isn't retina.

I don't normally use the dark theme but switched to it just in case.

It's fine here on my 2017 i7 5k Retina 27" iMac.

Very odd, don't know what to suggest.

Good to know - I'll be interested to know if it sorts it for the other people having the same issue.

I haven't noticed that - But my iMac has 40Gb RAM and I doubt I fill it up. The MB only has 8Gb but again, I don't really drive it hard.

I’ve always updated as soon as they come out and in over ten years, I’ve not had a problem doing that.

Now I’ve said that, you watch... this update will destroy at least one of my Macs :D

10.14.3 is out - Combo update here.

/edit - The combo is broken, I've never seen this before. I'm going to install via Software Update and then check in a few days if a new combo has been released.

10.14.4 is out - You can get the combo from here and it actually works properly this time, unlike 10.14.3.
