*** The Official macOS Tahoe (26) Thread ***

Does anyone know how to change the size of the font for the clock at the login screen. It's heinously big.

On the iPhone you can make it smaller.

How do they let clowns make these design decisions?

Really regretting upgrading so far, it's got quite a few annoying bugs in it. Safari needs to be restarted occasionally, and smooth scrolling in most browsers only seems to work when it wants.

I don't mind this release but I haven't found anything noticeably better than the previous version. The app I use to limit battery to 80% doesn't work but I'm sure it'll be fixed at some point.

Same, I can't actually remember the last time I regretted upgrading so soon.

I'm finding I'm having to Force Quit applications quite regularly and the Apps replacement quite often doesn't want to actually show me any apps...this release felt nowhere near ready.

And I still dislike this new Liquid Glass look and left aligned text :/

I think it'll be the same as when BMW introduced the new grills; you never fully like them but you'll get used to it.
26 does look a bit naff though and it feels like the UI redesign was this year major "feature" and done purely for the sake of Apple "needing" to release a major every year

There are some settings in System Settings > Wallpaper, but it seems like you can only change the font, font weight and whether the clock shows or not. Doesn't seem to be a way to reduce the actual font size of the clock.

Any way to get the Brightness and Volume Up/Down to appear back into the middle of the screen, rather than just below the system icons (and or bigger)? Really, really annoying having it moved after all these years.

Bump,

Any workarounds for this?

Figured out why scrolling in browsers feels bad, well it was bad system wide. Culprit is Bartender, I've quit that and it's back to being buttery smooth.

There seems to be those that are fine with Tahoe and those that wish they'd never seen it! I've been less than impressed with iOS 26 and perfectly happy with Sequoia on my MacBook that for now I've held off upgrading. I expect Tahoe will get polished with updates and move out of user beta :D

I dunno why but this morning my Mac Mini won't recognise my wired Keychron Q1 from sleep. I woke it up with the mouse but the RGB on the keyboard wasn't lit. Removed and replugged in the cable and the keyboard lit up so it got power (from the Caldigit), but no input.

I pulled out the Mac keyboard and turned it on and it paired with Bluetooth (i paired it previously) and it worked. Still once into the desktop it won't connect.

It needed a reboot.

(another nail in the "sleep" feature that I hate...this never happens when I just shut down)

Well that was a bit of a panic, had to reboot to get the Touch Bar back in action!

Think the gui needs a slight tweak, the rounded edges will be fine in a few days but the proportional size of some elements (tabs in safari being the most obvious) are noticeably different. Just need the option to scale down my tab text font a little and it'll look right again

I'm running the latest Beta (4) of 26.1 and thus far it's actually felt much more stable (certainly having to force quit applications a lot less) and also the new Tinted mode for the Liquid Glass is a very welcome addition :)

You got a screenshot of what the tinted mode looks like? I can't be bothered to find a YouTube video which is 4 years long with less than 5s of on topic discussion :D. Aka lazy.

So I reformatted my Mac Studio a couple of days ago and it has been a massive success. I didn't want to install any extra software I really didn't need and because I have a Raspberry Pi running PiHole I don't need to worry about ad blocking. So I've been using Safari (used to use Chrome) and I'm pretty impressed. Vertical tabs work really well and it feels pretty snappy. I only have two extensions now. Bitwarden and Keepa. Everything else seem to work well such as Picture in Picture mode by double right clicking on a video just works out of the box.

Having said all that there are a few things I don't know how to do yet like opening a new tab with the cursor automatically in the address bar but overall I'm happy.

Sorry, I missed this…I would love to reward that laziness with a screenshot but I don’t have one handy…I’d find one for you if I wasn’t equally as lazy :p

cmd-t, cmd-l

It’s two key strokes but it quickly becomes muscle memory.
