The Official My Console Died What Should I Do Thread?

Hehehe, Sony fail. My second PS3 has been locking up a lot over the past couple of months. This last week it started artifacting and glitching. I called them Monday and they arranged a swapover on Wednesday at my workplace. They hadn't showed by 5, so I called them and they had sent DPD to my house. They were to resend today, to my house (today is my one day off in weeks, I'm not best pleased).

DPD showed up around 13:00 with *two* PS3s, and didn't seem at all bothered by the fact that he was meant to take one away with him in each box. Net result is that he has left me two refurbed PS3s. Ding dong!

Result!!

My yellow lighted PS3 is now fixed. Bloke down the road did it for £40. Backed up my saves. Next time it happens i'll be able to get a replacement from Currys as I have their extended warranty. He used a hairdryer on the warranty sticker so there's not a sign of it being tampered with.:D

My old 360 I gave to me neighbour bought in 05 died yesterday, Taken it apart, there was practically no paste left at all on the heatsinks. It has been refurbed at one point as its new style heatsink.

So i cleaned it all up added new thermal paste etc and still RROD you think its worth getting the xclamp fix kit and doing the heatgun thing to fix it. As he replaced a dvd drive ms wont touch it lol.

I forgot to put the service request number on the box of my Xbox 360, it has already been sent off for repair now though.

Does this matter? Surely they can look it up by other means?

3 years and 5 months old today and it starts crashing very frequently.

Unplug it to give it a hug, plug it back in and...

Ahhhh, well that's the end of that then :(

Tbh, I was expecting it. Started crashing a few months ago and has been getting progressively worse. Guess I better crack out the screwdrivers.

My 4 month old (that IS months) PS3 slim just had a bluray drive failure where it would only accept (single layer) bluray games and refused to recognise my (dual layer) bluray movies.

One call to customer service and they told me to go through a full system restore (thankfully I managed to back up all the saves I could although I lost at least 40 hours of playtime due to stupid copy protected saves) which predictably didn't work (but I did call them back as I didn't know what option I should use and then I found out that I should've been given a reference number when I first called) and a call back started the replacement process which should've been on Wednesday but I got a call back later on telling me the new console won't be here until Thursday.

To be honest I won't be using the new system for any form of bluray movie playback as I'm going to be investing in a standalone player (like I should've done in the first place).

had my 3rd xbox rrod just :( it'll be my first experience of Xbox official replacement as I've always had 2nd hand xboxes in the past that i've had RROD'd for which I've had to replace with new consoles. Any idea what the wait is these days?

I sent mine off recently and it takes about a week to get it back from MS.

cheers mate. It's only RROD once, i've had it on since and it didnt happen - do you reckon I may as well send it off for repair anyway as it's likely to happen again?

****ing great, RRoD again. I knew play halo from the disk was a bad idea last night!
Now when i hit the power button there's no noise, just RRoD and the disk drive wont open.....how do i get MW2 out of it?

my 2006 xbox360 just died no warranty left, can i just stick the 20gb HDD into new arcade console and not worry about any settings?

Thats what i did, just put my memory stick and hard drive on my new 360 arcade, you will have to reinstall any games installed to the hard drive though.

My 360 just RROD'd :(

It had been downloading the FIFA World Cup demo for half an hour or so, went to play it and it froze. Rebooted the console, RROD. Tried a few more times, eventually got it to boot to the main menu but it froze again, then RROD when trying to boot. Seems ok now, though I've switched it off and will have another go tomorrow.

Is it likely to be the heat causing it? Does it mean my 360 is now on its last legs and is likely to RROD more and more?

Sorry, don't know much about all this, first time it has happened in 2.5 years of 360 ownership. FYI, it's a Premium console with HDMI port.

Usually when it starts going it's pretty much game over and eventually will just stay constant RROD no longer how long you leave it.

Just noticed this was a few days ago so I'd imagine you've already found this out!

Anyone in the know here?

My 360 just RROD'd, I went through the request a repair process, its stating that I havent had past dealings with MS. This isnt true as the same thing happened before, about 2years ago, maybe less. It was covered by warranty then and returned to me apparently with a new disk drive and mobo. Im guessing they just give me a different refurb console and now its saying my warranty ran out in november 2007 and no past repair data.

I thought if u had your console repaired your warranty was extended further from the repair date?

Any idea what I should do?

Mine's been running nicely since I cooked and clamped it :)

Cut away the airvents at the back of the casing and also sealed the fan shroud the the heatsinks.

They used to be too hot to touch but are now much more comfortable after a few hours of play. Might increase the fan speed slightly just to keep it a little cooler.
