The Official My Console Died What Should I Do Thread?

Did yours get fixed or replaced? Judging from the change of serial number on my xbox account, I think mine got replaced. Oh and its scheduled for delivery tomorrow :D:D

Mine got delivered back today, it said on the attached note it had been "serviced".
Got a free months xbox live as well.
One week turnaround, very impressive! :D

Well my 26/12/05 360 got the three red rings last week (just when i was thinking it was indestructible) done the xclamp fix on it last night and it's up and running again. :)

I too thought mine was indestructible. The 3 yr extended warranty was due to run out next month. In a way, I'm glad it broke down. Now, back to playing on my new shiny xbox:cool:

My 18 month Elite was collected by UPS today. It has the 3 red lights thing. Will a new part be put on it at the repair centre that will make it less likely to happen again?

okay guys my friend sold me his rrod xbox for £10 and i fixed it with a kit i bought on amazon for £18
i now use the xbox as my main xbox (had one already just bought second for my brother) now i use the fixed one instead.

i was skeptical at first but i thought id give it a go its pretty simple too, youtube tutorial is

basically microsoft used clamps instead of screws to hold the heatsinks on, thus when it got really hot the contact of the heatsink to the gpu and cpu wasnt close enough and the heat didnt dissapate, causing mass overheatage and red ring of death.

i must stress i only used this because the xbox was about four years old and has no warranty left with micropox, so for £30 i thought id give diy a go.

My 360 has just gone to Xbox Hell, the very morning Mass Effect 2 lies on my doormat. What luck. 2 years and a few days old, so getting it replaced.

My question is, for those who have used the online UPS collection thing. Am I supposed to select the "UPS Standard" option under "domestic", "EU transborder" or "International". My label tells me nothing. Also, why does it ask whose going to be charged at the end? I thought the pickup was free?

My Premium 2006-11-25 console died this morning :( Purchased in April 2007, so still just in warranty! Off to buy an Elite this morning, and will sell the premium when it's replacement comes back I think!

I wanted an Elite anyway, a 20GB HDD is far too small these days :D

[Edit] Due to HUKD, I'm now the proud owner of an Elite for £160 :D

JESUS ****ING CHRIST!!!!!!

I decided to get my ailing premium replaced (it's been dying for 6 months with reapirs on a monthly basis).

Got myself a new elite. It lasted 4 ****ing days?!!!?!!!!!!!111111oneeleven. RROD.

So annoyed at how unlucky I can be. Oh well, back round to the shop to get it swapped.

Just waiting on dpd turning up with my refubed ps3 60 gig which suffered a blu ray drive failiure got it replaced out of warranty for nothing after a week of heated phone calls and the fact the place i got it from went bust :D

Hi all,

My 360 started playing up the other night, with graphical glitches and freezing. I feel that a RROD is coming. Unfortunately the console if over 1 year old, but luckily is within 3 years (I think). So, how do I FORCE the RROD so I can get it fixed? Do I need to just keep using it until they come?

Thanks

I've got the yellow light on my PS3, it won't turn on at all.

My warranty ran out in January but luckily I have the extended one from Curry's and I can get a replacement Slim model.

This is all very well but i'm going to lose my saved games. I hear of a repair shop nearby, what is the likelyhood that somebody can fix this so I can at least turn it on to retrieve my saves? Has anyone else had this issue?

My 360 (purchased 26/12/2006) has recently started locking up with signs of artifacting. It's done it twice so far and after a quick hug it'll carry on working ok for a couple of weeks.

I'm tempted to do the oven bake and X-clamp fixes as well as extending the heatsink ducting to cover all of the heatsink. I read an article a few years ago that explained that due to the small amount of heatsink being covered by the plastic duct, the fans were only pulling air in at the edge heatsink. Extending the duct to cover the entire heatsink means that the fans would pull air across the entire surface area meaning more efficient cooling and lower temps.

I think doing that and cutting away at the air vents at the back of the unit should mean that the processor temps should plummet while keeping noise levels very low.

Hehehe, Sony fail. My second PS3 has been locking up a lot over the past couple of months. This last week it started artifacting and glitching. I called them Monday and they arranged a swapover on Wednesday at my workplace. They hadn't showed by 5, so I called them and they had sent DPD to my house. They were to resend today, to my house (today is my one day off in weeks, I'm not best pleased).

DPD showed up around 13:00 with *two* PS3s, and didn't seem at all bothered by the fact that he was meant to take one away with him in each box. Net result is that he has left me two refurbed PS3s. Ding dong!
