**The "Official" N00b Needs Help Thread**

Logitech don't support a lot of their G series on OSX, so you won't see the software on their website.

*strokes G9 with acceleration controls on the mouse*

Just been reading the reviews of the Logitech mice.

That G9 looks like pap IMO :(

Pity the G5 seems to have gone blue, and the MX looks like some kind of iRobot prototype.

It may look a bit odd but the MX is the most comfortable mouse I've had. Much better than the mighty mouse a the battery last forever.

Yeah, i'm still on the fence about the looks.

It seems like a good looking mouse in some pictures, but then I change my mind :/

Out of interest, how long does it take to charge? and how long will it last with 4-5 hours usage?

It takes a while to charge but its mains rather than USB charged unlike the G7, it has a nice little cradle like the older MX300 etc had. The battery also lasts forever, I've not managed to wear it down with spending a whole day using it for work etc (10+ hours).

The cradle is just for asthetics then? I.e. No real purpose?

I only ask because the MX1000 charged through the cradle, and this was why I got it. I suppose charging from the mains is faster though.

Trying to convince myself that I should move back to a wireless mouse.

I guess it's a good job you're not being forced to use it.

Variable speed, a couple of different grips (though I always use the wide one) 2 programmable buttons (one on exposé, and one for spaces), variable sensitivity on the mouse, smooth or clicky scroll. Does me fine!

No the cradle is the charger, its just hooked up to the mains rather than USB. You get a little wireless USB dongle thingy which I've got shoved into one of the USB ports on the keyboard.

Heres a couple of pictures

Back to topic:

I want to edit some fraps footage i took on my windows box in iMovie but it wont accept .avi, is there any software i can use to get it to accept this or alernativly convert it to somthing else? Id prefer the former as converting it to QT then back to avi fo play back will be a pain in the ****.

Try iSquint (free) or Visual Hub (small fee) to encode the video in different formats :)

Cheers for the pictures J1nxy.

SNIP

You got a pic of the USB dongle going into the keyboard? Ive got the same mouse and im waiting for my USB apple keyboard to arrive

Awesome! Thanks very much DrJ!!!!!!

Edit: Good read, seems great. Does this include a way for a parent to review emails before the kids see them?

The missus went to a school ran internet child safety thing a while back and mentioned that this was possible to do generally...personally I have not seen anything on Windows that lets me do that yet but Apple probably have thought of that and do it straight off the bat?

Q. My volume control is annoying me, the increments are too wide. One bar sounds too low, the other too loud, what can I do?

A. Hold shift & option (Alt) while using the volume adjustment on the keyboard. This allows for much finer control of the machines volume level.

it most certainly is an accessibility thing :) that box is to do with the :focus pseudo class of a link (in this case).

open up your userChrome.css and put this in there

Code:
a {
    -moz-outline:none;
}

restart firefox and that should sort you

Sorry I meant a Leopard Accessibilty thing, as had been suggested before, but you sir are a legend. If only I could get it to work :-(

Q: Though OS X may be a very advanced OS, because it's installed on Hard Drives like Windows the files must fragment over time? How does OS X handle Defragmentation?

OK I have been using OS X for a while now and wouldnt consider my self a n00b...

However, I have had one feature/bug of OS X annoy me from the first day! It is hard to explain but when I sometimes go to click one of the 3 buttons at the top of any window and miss (hey, they're small!) - when I realign my mouse on the button sometimes no amount of clicking will make the button work. I have to actually move off the button, click somewhere else and then go back and click it (making sure i dont miss it again for ultimate frustration). This also happens with other buttons on other applications...

Has anyone ever come across this??

p.s. apart from that I love OS X...
