*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

Stock will turn up at some point. Still using my old Pro and it’s as great as ever. I can handle holding a power on button (for now).
This power on via controller that Nintendo have hobbled. Surely this could be fixed via an update but is the general consensus, nah, we'll make it annoying till you upgrade to the pro 2 controller.

Is there a list of games that have had an upgrade treatment? Wondering if Monster Hunter Rise has, as I never finished that on the original but enjoyed it.

Just set mine up. Bought that welcome thing what a load of ****.

That said Mario Kart and Knockout Tour is such good fun.

What’s people’s recommendations for someone whose not played any other Switch games?

I have not seen one article or person recommending to buy the welcome thing so that shouldn't come as a surprise

That can’t be right?? According to the internet, switch 2 was going to flop!

Some perspective

Switch 1 cost $299 and sold 2.7 million units in first 30 days

Switch 2 cost $449 and sold 3.5 million units first 4 days

Some of this has to do with supply - at my local stores they only just finished selling through their first batch of units and the 2nd batch is arriving next Monday. That's a lot more supply than other console launches and means there is no scalping either.

Because the switch 2 hardware has been ready for production since 2021 and the design finalized quite some time back, they had a lot of time to build launch inventory -no other console maker fully designs and builds a console and then says ok let's wait 3 or 4 years before we launch it

Paired nicely with my WH-1000xm4, will try updating the format on USB dongle for my Arctic 7P+ though I heard Switch 2 only detects the mic.

All many need to do is unlock the framerate.. it’s not that tough. Probably a line of code needs editing.
Just like Sony, Nintendo should really push 3rd parties to revisit the most popular games. Perhaps through them a few coins. Right now, all the S2 does it lock a previous unreliable 30fps mode and reduce harsh DRS switching on games which supported that.

Regarding HDR and BotW. I managed to enable HGIG and redone the HDR calibration on console but the game continues to be somewhat washed out and greyish especially during the night periods. Is this just how the game presents? Nothing is ever really black, night sky etc.

Early days I’d say.

I'm not convinced we'll see much take up from third party developers on the upgrade front, unless they get some encouragement from Nintendo.

It suits Nintendo to patch and upgrade a load of old games, to mask over the threadbare release line up and give people something 'new' or 'better' to do with their new console, thus encouraging sales of the console itself.

That incentive isn't there so much for the third parties, their interests will be more focused on "how quick can we get 'Generic Gaming Game 5' out on Switch 2 to start racking up sales?" rather than "what if we patched 'Generic Gaming Game 4' so people can play that again?"

Edit - and you have to consider many third party games were already available with better graphics and performance on multiple other platforms, so there's a good chance a lot of people who were bothered enough, just played those games elsewhere, an option that wasn't as easy for Nintendo exclusive games.

Is the pro 2 controller basically sold out everywhere?

Really enjoying MK world. I've won all of the cups (including special) at 150cc. I don't have 3 stars on all cups though. If I just get 3 stars on 100cc is that enough? Do you get anything extra for 3 stars @150cc? I wish it showed you stats for the individual classes, no idea which cc I've completed on each cup (other than winning 150cc in each).

I got 3 stars on all the 50cc GP's and Knockouts relatively easily.
I'm now trying to get them on 100cc, but it's damned frustrating. Last night I was doing the Lightning Cup in 100cc. Finished 1st in the first 3 races with loads of coins, and led each one pretty much from the start. On the last 100m of Bowsers Castle, I got blue shelled, then smashed with 2 red shells as I was starting up again... and ended up in 8th! No stars for me! With 24 racers, they're all so close that you can drop from 1st to about 15th in the blink of an eye!!

Is there a specific criteria for getting 3 stars... and is there anything for getting 3* over just getting a gold cup - rather than a sense of achievement?!

It’s the same for me. Grey cast, but colours are vivid enough. Using the same display for PC and PS5 Pro I get proper HDR. I think it’s just poor implementation from Nintendo and title dependent.
