**** The Official Note 4 thread ****

I thought the edge might be a bit of a gimmick but the amount of uses people have for it, and you can imagine many more, it actually begins to look quite appealing.

What are people swaying towards? An extra 220mah may sing the vote towards the normal note, but I would hope the Edge battery is still sufficient for a days use. There are no other hardware differences for the UK market, right?

Whats your predictions for the release retail price? I'm trying to decide if I want this, the Note 3 or the new iPhone 6 Plus (64GB)?

Not sure if the extra is worth it vs the Note 3 or not? Would I feel like I've upgraded from the Note 2 if I buy the Note 3? or should I save up for the N4 or iP6+? I hate decisions :p

Well for me as a Note 3 owner the Note 4 offers small bumps in various areas. Nothing breathtakingly significant but they're all nice combined. The Edge has the obvious difference and a feature to adapt around daily and nightly use.

The Z3 offers something completely different and at a cheaper price (£520-£530 pre-order price, sub £500 I imagine within a month). I guess we can expect Note 4 prices to be around £600 easily given the launch price of the Note 3. Edge will likely be around that too no doubt.

Z3 is out before the end of the month too and is slimmer than the Note 4 (and 3) which is mighty appealing to boot. I guess I'm longing for a different feel now as I'm familiar with Samsung and stock Android but want to see what Sony have as videos show it to be very nice and almost stock, just gently breathed on with the Xperia tweaks unlike Samsung/HTC.

The Sony version of Android is nice, I recently had the Z Ultra, but had to return it due to having touch screen issues, so I'm looking again either at the N3, N4 & iP6+?

If an iPhone could be fully used without the need for iTunes then I'd happily put one on my radar. I djust don't like the idea of being forced to install yet another software package (and it's not small either) just to be able to use my phone.

And then there's the desire to customise, use other keyboards etc. I dislike the stock Apple keyboard so for me it just wouldn't work!

they're including 3rd party kb support in the new ios apparently

e: and widgets!

That's the thing, to manage the phone itself iTunes is needed for music, backups and whatnot. At the moment I manage every aspect of my phone from my phone through apps that allow full control of everything on it. 95% don't need root either and because of that I'm half tempted to not bother rooting my next phone purely because things have changed so much the last 18 months that root isn't needed any more.

Oh I thought keyboard support was the inclusion of SwiftKey/Swype now? Pretty cool!

But not quick enough

Doubt I'll ever switch from Android though. If 90% of all the apps I use can be used the same way on iOS with 90% of that 90% remaining free then maybe we can talk business!

Caught between note 4 and iphone6+

Leaning more towards note 4

I was considering this too, just thought it might be worth giving Apple stuff a try to see if it's worth it.

But the more I think about it, the more I seem to be convincing myself to stick with Android/Note 4. The 6+ is nice, but it's bigger than the Note 4 with less screen, and a lower resolution. It doesn't have the SPen or any of the multitasking that the Note has.

Then there's the price, if I get the Note I'll get a 128GB microSD card for it (or just stick with the 64GB card that I have), so that's say £550 for the phone, and then another £60 for the 128GB card.

Note 4 - £550 (estimate, but probably not too far off, hopefully) + £60 = £610 range. Or £550 for just the phone and my 64 GB card.
iPhone 6+ - £789 for the 128 GB version, or £699 for the 64 GB version.

I just can't see anything that would draw me to the 6/6+ over the Note really, other than just a change for the sake of change.

Speaking of 128GB MicroSD cards, Amazon's price has plummeted for them and you can get them under £70 now. At that price it's a no brainer to have one regardless of whether you need one or not.

I paid £85 on the MyMemory special deal when it launched!

Will the Gear VR work with both the note 4 and the edge? If not, that might sway me more than the loss of battery capacity.

FWIW, the same fear put me off iPads for ages. Then I got one, and I've never had to use iTunes. But all my music comes from Google Music, photos get sync'd to Dropbox and well that's about it. There's only a few specific use cases where you need to use it, I can only really think of a complete system failure that needs to use iTunes to sort out the firmware etc. Which would be true on Android aswell really.
