**** The Official Note 4 thread ****

Had a play with a couple of different ROMs recently. Firstly Nameless v6 which I didn't really get on with as there seemed to hangs and issues here and there (including the slow dialer bug but that seems to be on other ROMs as well). I am now using Dr.Ketan ROM - N5 port which is a joy! Breathed new life into my N4 and it has N5 features such as the people/app edge features, ability to use the S-Pen whilst the screen is off and a host of other things/custimisations. I highly recommend (the only bug I have found so far is the camera icon displays on the screen before launching the camera, when accessed via the lock screen with no password. Something I can live with).

EDIT - this ROM makes TouchWiz a much more enjoyable experience :)

GTFO! :eek::eek:

No idea - get lost with all of Samsung/Android/Network fragmented updates. I know some Samsung phones now have MM but I swear a decent amount of rival phones started seeding a long time ago.

TBH - being on 4.4. probably has its perks in some ways (e.g. skipping 5.0.1 straight to 5.1 when she updates).

Don't get why people make such a big deal about Android updates :P largely they just seem to change the UI around for the sake of it, sure there are some underlying changes but a lot of fairly basic usability issues are still unresolved or less than ideal from Android 2.3 :S i.e. editing and manipulation of multi-line text, granular and better configuration control over notifications and so on and some of the better, but a little bit buggy features have been stripped out and replaced with less useful but still buggy features :(

Comparing my Note 1 that is stuck on 2.3.6 due to an eMMC bug and my Note 4 on 5.1.1 I wonder what they've actually spent their time on (other than underlying updates for newer hardware, etc.).

MM is a nice step up in responsiveness and smoothness.

Is that reason enough?

Haven't used MM yet to be fair - my old Note has never suffered for responsiveness or smoothness though and neither does my new one - I often find that those increases in responsiveness and smoothness people often talk about with updates come from the update cleaning out a load of old junk from a poorly maintained system though :S I tend to keep mine fairly tuned.

Comparing my old Note on an ancient version of Android to 5.1.1 though I'm fairly underwhelmed. (I also have other Android devices on various other versions).

Rroff does have a point. I have forgotten the last Android release I was genuinely excited about and then happy/blown away (always the former part) by it. I am a sucker though, like to have the latest update ASAP.

Does anyone know how to fix the annoying popup that opens asking which application I want to use for certain actions (like opening web links etc). Drives me bananas, it's constantly asking me to select an app for all kinds of actions.

Does it not go away when you select always?

Nope, I've pressed the always toggle every single time and it still asks the next time I do the same action. Stupidly annoying.

If it's not happening to anyone else, I guess it must be a software bug so I'll give it proper wipe when it gets back from Samsung repair.

I have seen people previously mention this as just "one of those bugs". As you say, drives me insane. It does it all the time! Links for browsers and videos opened in Root Explorer/ES File Explorer are the worst offenders.

I can confirm that my new 'repaired' phone doesn't do it. Must be something in software that sorted it.

Impressed with the Samsung repair (via Anovo), sent on Monday, back today. Looks like they pretty much replaced the entire phone, new screen, new housing, new rear camera (has factory fit plastic still attached), new battery, but oddly enough, my old S pen :p still, can't complain at that.

Anyone else using the note 5 port ROM?

It's given my phone a breath of fresh air and runs flawlessly, aside from hardware, you can hardly tell it's running note 4 software at all.

A must try for anyone who has rooted! You get the benefits of customisable themes too :)

Will put some pics up if anyone is interested
