The **OFFICIAL** Nvidia lynch mob thread

maybe naive, but in simple terms:

old (cheap) tech + new badge + hiked price + sales + no threat from competitors = win for nVidia

people on here are complaining that nVidia are not pushing out new stuff and driving forward with blisteringly quick cards. simple fact, unless the market requires it, its pointless for a business to do this.

spammage .... , simple blow the ******* up... seems to be the way of the world... i am real hacked off i have money ready to burn on a new gpu £350 sat there, i am running a old 8meg card with a new fan on it (i can look on the web)... no games but i can wait.got £230 for me card..i have the ps3 already. when i brought my 8800 oc gtx it cost me £430 computer gaming is very expensive and getting out dated very quickly it sucks, if i get a new card i getting a evga just because they offer a step up program. if another card released soon after.. so if i do buy the 9800gx2 it going to cheaper to upgraded in a few months..i dont know ! nvidia do need a good face slapping with rotten fish, the good news is the prices are getting cheaper..well a little any way..

Fully star out any swearing

NV have lost kudos

Nvidia's "latest" drivers (that work - well ok they still occasionally crash in Vista but no BSOD's unlike their betas) are from last year! This is not even an April Fool's joke.

Is Nvidia's driver team a part-time student who's been on the beer since Christmas? The average Irish politician has had a better output since then.

Nvidia should be ashamed of themselves, of course, they couldn't care less could they?

Roll on Larribee.

Fact: the 9800 cards offer little benifit over the 8800 cards

Fact: they are a lot more expensive

(possible) Fact: The 9800 cards dont cost much to make as they are an evolution of the 8800

Fact: Dispite this, people keep buying them...

I fail to see why any business would see this as a bad situation to be in? Chuck out old kit rebadged for a hiked price and people still buy them... Its a business gold mine. NVidia are not stupid. They know that midrange graphics are difficult and competitve, and high end users are more concerned over epeens, meaning they can chuck out cards that they know hardcore gamers will buy regardless, and reap the rewards.

I just hope they put the profits to good use.

Well this is the worst i seen people react about a generation(or lack of) of graphic cards in a long time, since maybe the 5 series there is a lot of people who buy either brand and something like this (and drivers) will be remembered next time they buy a card unless one company has a great lead on the other then we become more fickle.
Like you said the normal person will not know about what is the best cards out as they will go to the high street mostly and buy from the purple shirt people and buy a card what is 6months to a year out of date or low end thinking it's the bee's knees, when they only spend a few £100 on a complete pc they willn't spend that same amount on a video card.

edit: my point is as we buy our pc stuff on-line and read reviews and forums we know when we getting shafted, not like the normal person walking into the high street and not knowing what is what a lot of the time.

9800GTX = 8800GTS but clock speed up, cheaper to produce and allows them to remove the G80 from the product line. Just make G92's which are cheaper to make for Nvidia. Performs about the same as the 8800GTX which is already beating single processor cards from competition. Launch at 240/250 mark. How much did the 8800GTX cost at launch?

If they had called this the 8900GTX then people wouldn't be shouting so much.

Don't know how much of that is true but at the moment probably is going to happen.

So what do we have to look forward too.

9900GTX = What the 9800GTX should have been but probably not ready just yet
9900GX2 = Why?
9800GT = 8800GT with tri sli. Same fiasco as 9800GTX.

the new 8800GT and GTS should have been the other part of the 8900 series. If you look at the 7 series, they all seem to fit nicely:

8800GTS G80
8800GTX G80
8900GT (8800GT)
8900GTS (8800GTS G92)
8900GTX (9800GTX)
8900GX2 (9800GX2)
8950GTX (9900GTX)
8950GT (9800GT)
8950GX2 (9900GX2)

Using that product naming the cards make a lot more sence. So yes, i agree with you, a major part of the probem here is the naming. Its quite clearly existing tech being sold as new tech... But the fact still remains, people are buying it....
