I'm amazed at the amount of people picking DMs on fantasy football, they're a complete dud in my opinion. In fact, I think the fantasy football creators really need to change the points system to include points for things like interceptions and tackles made, that would make DMs a really viable and interesting choice.
Maybe if midfielders got 2 points for a clean, sheet, it would be more balanced i.e. 60 mins + CS = 4 points, which is better than current 3.

Yeah, they need to do something like that. They give out points for saves for goalkeepers (1 point per 3 or 4 saves I think), so why not do the same for interceptions/tackles, or like you said increase the clean sheet bonus for DMs. It seems unfair that a DM can play as important a role in keeping a clean sheet as the defence and goalkeeper yet doesn't get anything like the same bonus points.
Regarding DMs, a few years ago bonus points were given arbitrarily by some sort of panel which means that there was more chance of them getting them if they played well. Sun DreamTeam also used to (not sure about now) give points based on a player's rating out of 10 so again could be rewarded.
Basically a DM is only worth it as a 4.5m squad filler (assuming you'll want to play 3 forwards at some point) who reliably starts every game, or if they are on set pieces.
However on the topic of Pogba he is not a pure DM. I went to the Turin derby in March and he was more box-to-box, also lashed in a freekick from 30 yards (see set pieces above). That said, £8.5m seems overpriced all the same when you consider some of the alternatives you can get in the 7.5-8.5 bracket who typically play further forward.

During the Euros you got extra points for 7+ rating on Sun DT.
