** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

Hi guys ive tried general hardware and not much of a response so i thought I would try this thread I am after a gaming keyboard and mouse please. I mostly play mmos and dont really want noisey typing i.e. blue switches.

What sort of budget?

I'd say MX Browns would go best for MMO's, due to being light, and are very nice for typing without the audible click like mx blues.

Just changed from blues to browns, and I'm really liking the difference for gaming and typing.

I miss the click of my DAS but since switching to a zowie the build quality is a lot nicer with less sharp edges making it far more comfortable.

Still can't say which I'd prefer but two fantastic keyboards.

I miss the click from the blues also. As I type as much as I game these days.

Yeah, they seem more interested in unnecessary features rather than realising (and reading) what the product is.

Still, received this today, absolutely love it. Looks awful in the picture and very nice in person! and with MX Browns, very nice to type on.

That is absolutely awesome!!!

The Filco Majestouch 2 just got hammered over on a bit-tech review, 67%. Not sure i agree with most of what they said. Called it too basic for the price. I think the fact its a no nonsense board is a plus point personally.

I would kind of agree with the review to a point - I like no nonsense boards and happily pay a good price for them - but to a point - ~£100 is what I'd expect to pay for a mechanical keyboard, even one with a paintjob - if I was spending £130+ I'd be expecting a bit more than a plain mechanical keyboard.

So I'm finally looking for a mechanical keyboard and I'm finding it really difficult to find a product that fits all my needs in a market that is full of expensive products.

With a little compromising I'm down to simply requiring ISO (UK) Layout and Brown Switches at the very minimum. I'm indifferent on tenkeyless although I might as well go for it.

After hunting around I decided the choice was between the very expensive Filco Ninja and the great value CM Storm Quickfire Rapid, which is almost half the price.

Unfortunately, now it seems the Quickfire Rapid is impossible to find with Brown switches. It was certainly sold at the end of 2012 as plenty of people bought one. Right now it isn't in stock at any major retailer and only one lists it on their site at all (with a pre-order notice).

So, where did it go? Will it be back?

If I can get away with spending £65 for the Quickfire Rapid I'd much prefer that. I recognise quality and do like Filco keyboards, but saving £55 is pretty huge.

Why do companies keep dropping Browns from their product lines?

Also why isn't there a white Filco ninja in ISO layout, because that would be immense!

Gotta say....I loves my corsair k90! It's a joy to type on and the wife loves typing on it as well. I have not had any experience with other types of switch I would hate to go non-mech now.

Moved from blues to browns...I've tried a bit of typing and played some BL2 yesterday and today. Browns I'm finding are fine for typing, and much better for FPS game play...over blues

Browns just give you best of both worlds. :)

I have reds in my Qpad MK-85, but would like browns, as i find reds a little to soft and easy to press.

Sadly both the MK-80 and MK-85 are both out of stock.
