Getting ps3 cell processor games running on ps5 would take a monumental amount of time and effort wouldn’t it ? I don’t expect anything but a handful of games to work through emulation maybe.

To be honest, yes.

Microsoft have that with their console. (Playing Xbox 360 games and streaming to my Laptop is all my Xbox One is good for albeit)

You'll never get ps3 BC without custom hardware being added to the mobo. The PS3 was a beast (which is why it was a pain to dev for) with a lot of custom hardware.

I've seen people on youtube video comments posting crap like "none of the games showed by ps5 needs an ssd" to those people go watch the ratchet clank gameplay again - during the gameplay ratchet jumps into a "rifts" and stays there for appox 1 to 1.5 seconds - this is actually a loading screen and after that 1 to 1.5 seconds a brand new world pops up instantly. This is only possible on an SSD, the game jumps very fast through multiple worlds with just about 1 second in between them for the PS5 to load a whole new map... that's incredible!

So how do you lie that down?

Looks like the Round stand will be supplied as looks like it sits underneath to "prop up" the end when laying down

EDIT:
Still can't get over the fact it is white - it will look hideous alongside all my black home cinema devices.

#BlackPS5Matters

why? It would be wasted on Mario 22, Mario Kart 16 and Zelda 34.

It will also still have the other games too you know.

But also, yes. Why would Nintendo even bother they make a fortune in their little niche. Be pointless for them to bother with this market.

... that's incredible!

That's a PCI-E SSD! :p

Ahh okay. Won't exactly look elegant that way either. I prefer the cuboid with better cooling in mind so far.

For me, it's a tricky choice. I have zero interest in the PS exclusives other than GT and if they're coming away from GT Sports competitive multiplayer, then Forza has it for me.* I've more invested on the Xbox side too, although my PSN+ runs to mid-2021 whereas my Gold+Game Pass runs till either Jan or Feb 2021. Two of my close mates run Xbox (more serious about gaming) where I have about 5/6 on PS which are generally carried along by me... :D

*One thing I've noticed is GTPlanet forum members often keep saying the same stuff for release after release. And every time, they don't get the features that have been in the last number of FM games. GT started my car (and JDM) fanaticism too.

Did you expect PS3 and earlier BC? I don't think there has been mention of BC beyond PS4 from Sony at any point.

I wasn't expecting it but i was hoping they'd make an effort seeing that Microsoft is all in with their machines. The fact is i have a ton of PS3 games i haven't had the chance to play yet. And while i upgraded the several that were remastered for the PS4 to reduce my PS3 library, i would've liked the chance for some sort of emulation on the PS5 so i can play my PS3 games at 1080p at 60fps, i would have been happy enough with that.

I expect them to make the effort at least yes. I know it's not easy, especially the PS3, but if Microsoft can do it with the Series X and actually enhance old games, then why can't Sony put the effort in?

They pretty much said on the PS4 launch event that all future PlayStations were going to be on the same sort of architecture going forward, heavily implying that all future PlayStations were going to be backwards compatible with at least the PS4 but no further back. That's what i took from it all those years ago anyway. But i was hoping that the PS5 was going to be powerful enough to use software emulation for the PS3, guess not

Myself and many others have been hoping for a system that allows you to play PS1 and PS2 games on modern HDTV's without it looking like crap. They did it on the original PS3 that launched in the US, but we never got it in the UK, our version only had partial support done through software which they eventually gave up on (and they charged us more for.)
These days if you have a decent mid-range PC you can emulate PS1 and PS2 games on modern HDTV's with much higher resolutions and frame rates. But it was the PS3 i was more concerned with

The whole idea behind the fixed power/variable clocks design means they know exactly how much power the APU is going to use at maximum load. They can therefore make the cooling system quiet at this maximum load and guarantee it will never get louder. In theory... :D
I didn’t like the use of turbo on the ps5, it seemed messy for devs to use. Could be totally wrong though.

also in this instance I much prefer the SSD solution in the series x to the ps5, seems a lot less vague.

I wonder what stance Sony will take this gen with steering wheels, I know there were issues going from ps3 to ps4. I'd like to not have to buy a new one.

I'm really hoping that all PS4 controllers like my MadCatz frighting Stick and my Logitec G29 wheel are compatible out of the box, i'd hate to have to rebuy everything again, that would suck.

I'm hoping that because the architecture is so similar that they are either compatible or if not adaptors are easy to bring to market.

Seriously, do you think people will NOT buy the console because of its looks? Genuine question.

That is like the last thing I look at when considering buying it.

I personally thought it looked utterly awesome.

The console looks quality to me. Can't wait.

Yeah I also like it. Looks nice in black.

Im still boggled they led with GTA5.
Yeah that was weird. The whole presentation was weird to be honest.

Yeah I like the black one. Also like the controller on the top with the classic PlayStation logo.

Overall I did not see anything in this event that would make me want to buy it day one. As I have said before I will wait a few years for the price to come down and for the library of exclusive games to build up like I did with a PS4 Pro.

Not just a PCI-E SSD, the system has custom IO chips also, a PC would need a substantially faster SSD to make up the difference.

There was an interesting post on Reddit about console development, which gives you a bit of an idea about development on PlayStation, with PS2 looking like a right pain.

I guess they should be capable of easily making an efficient emulator for all games across the board, but they must not be interested in doing so, which is a big shame.

Like i said the PS1 and the PS2 are pretty much not needed now and everything and their mum can emulate the PS1 and much better frame rates and resolutions than the original. And the PC Emulator for the PS2 pretty amazing.

Thing about it tho, I'm willing to bet it's going to be loud again. That config just isn't conducive to airflow at low rpm.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, those petals either side at the top strongly suggest they have optimised its laminar flow so they can reduce required fan air pressure.

Hopefully it won’t be too long before the tear down video shows up, plus photos of the back to see what ports we are getting there. And where the user SSD goes!

Oh absolutely. It comes down to things like the dedicated channels, latency, IOPS, etc. to feel fast rather than just the raw numbers a lot of people just brainlessly repeat. Hopefully this sort of thing does get widely utilized.

Mind you, I would like to see the extra benefit this will prove to have over launching games from something off the shelf, such as my desktop PC using a 512GB 970 Pro for example.
