I'm ok with the price, doesn't bother me, I usually have all three consoles anyway.

But I'd imagine £499 will be a lot to swallow for a parent at xmas etc. Was more a passing comment.

I think for the amount of use people get out of their consoles £499 isn't much to ask.
How much use do people get out of their consoles?

And how much do people earn such that £500 is "not much at all"?

Whichever console is cheaper is going to have a decent psychological advantage - you guys are all thinking about how much profit MS/Sony can make per unit, but neither will want to price themselves out of contention.

(Maybe they can get together to fix the prices ;))

Game releases will play a big part also as we know. What does Xbox even have up their sleeves? Halo, which has lost its dedicated fan base anyway. PS has, i'm not sure. But i know things in the last such as Bloodborn and Medievil looked very inviting. Anyone got a clues there?

Well whatever the price I'll still buy it on the premise of the games on offer, where as Xbox are still miles behind (more Halo, more gears, more of the same) won't be getting anything until they show something worth investing in.

I would think a lot more people in a house use a console more than a PC.

People are regularly buying 4K televisions and some of them are way over £500.

Even though I've had a PC for a long time (since my Amiga days), for games I've probably played more on console. It's just easier to plug and play.

Games are already way overpriced on console compared to PC games, but they still survive. People are still buying them.

If all else fails then its £500 to shut the kids up and put them on the console without damaging a PC :D

Ironically ill be keeping the ps4 for kids:p.

Next gen consoles will make PC gaming largely redundant imo so £500 is a fair price. PC's were better when you didn't need services like Steam and top end graphics cards were £300. Today you're going to be paying £1000+ for a top end GPU and the gap will be smaller than ever next gen, add to that you can buy a quality 55" 4K TV for not much more than the price of a 32" 4K monitor which likely has dire back light bleed and poor HDR.

I can't believe I can defend high prices, but... Next generation consoles are pushing for quite a bit of power.
If you think about how long you might own one for, and how many hours you will use it, the overall cost seems pretty good.
As long as we can keep services where reasonable games are offered monthly, it makes things easier to swallow.

If full backwards compatibility is available, you could be right about PC gaming taking a downturn, though only for average PC gamer i reckon. People on older motherboards (like myself), also.

Not a playstation owner but, now I have my own place it suits me a lot better to turn on a console and sit on the coach than sit in a small office at a desk. Just appeals more now!

I'd have a read up on what Xbox has been up to (at least acquiring top game development studios.) They've invested heavily since 2018 which should start coming to fruition just as Xbox Series X releases.

Means nothing yet, I really do hope they bring some amazing games to the table but they haven't shown too much of that spirit over the last few years, buying up games studios is nothing if you don't allow them to run wild.

I've got faith. There's effectively a whole new team at Xbox now being headed by Phil Spencer and things like Game Pass show they are starting to make great decisions. Perhaps I'm wrong, who knows! As long as they are both competitive it can only be good for the consumer!

I'm just bitter about MCC never delivering.

I'll make up my mind on release, as won't get both. Though with MS pushing gamepass on windows, having PC in place of xbox might be okay. Though i won't be playing at 4k on PC, that's for sure.

Do you have a link to a good article relating to the investmented studios at all? Thanks
