Cant believe they're asking £70 for the "Standard edition" of The Last of Us Part 1 Remake.

What an absolute rip off :D
Well first - nobody is paying £70. If you aren't getting at least 10-12% off by buying your digital currency elsewhere, you're really not trying. If you're buying physical you shouldn't by paying much over £60.
This is a complete remake from ground up - I know, OcUK and Reddit readers have this issue with this and continuously cite "It was on the PS3, it was on the PS4".....no, this version of the game was never on those platforms.

This game will sell by the bucket loads as it gives people the opportunity to experience this game either for the first time in its definitive form, or for the 1st, 2nd......100th time, in its definitive form.
It looks fantastic, sounds fantastic and plays fantastic - no, it never looked, sounded or played as well as this on a PS3 or PS4.

Once again the vocal minority have their say and the bangwagon is jumped upon.
"Complete rip off, the game has already been out on previous platforms......"
"Have you played this version on the PS5?"
"No"

It might be a complete remake, but imo it should still be less than a normal game as some of the costs will be reduced. I'd guess they didn't rerecord voices, and the story's the same (I've no idea how much that contributes).

I'm absolutely loving going through tlou again.
Played it on ps4 but that was long enough ago to forget most of it.
I payed £62 which I do think is too much, but its exactly my type of game and will very much enjoy going through it again.
It's worth it for me but I can see why others are not convinced.

I wouldn't go as far as calling it a complete rip-off, but I won't be picking up TLOU part 1 remake until the price is heavily discounted. I'm perfectly happy to have played the original and PS4 remaster, the latter of which was good enough graphically for my tastes. And I think there will be a lot of people who think similarly ; it will sell, but I'll be surprised if it'a mega-success.

So just to confirm if I join ps plus extra am I best stacking 2-3 years of annual essential codes and then upgrading to extra?

Or

Get a free trial of extra (if I can) or buy 1 month code and then buy a few annual essential codes that would top up extra at 219 days I believe.

I’m thinking the first method might work out cheaper, is there a limit for stacking annual essential codes?

It sounds like you're coming at it from the Xbox Game Pass angle. There is no £1 upgrade to go to a higher tier or anything like that. I think you have to pay for whatever tier you want to go. Not 100% sure and would be happy to be proven wrong.

I see, in any case I think I will just get a month of extra here and there when a few games I want to play, and disable auto renew.
I can use my ms reward points towards Amazon gift cards and put that towards psn gift cards to pay for a few months worth of extra.:D

Ive decided getting a long term sub will just overwhelm me with games, considering I have gamepass ultimate as well, I don’t get that much
time to play as it is.

Remember that awesome new feeling back in June/July/August 2013 for the PS3 version?

With you on this - the new RRP for games is a bit of a joke imo, so there's that, and also... this is a tarting up of the TLOU Remaster from the PS4, sure I bet it look gorgeous and probably took a decent amount of effort. But I doubt it was rebuilt from the ground up, from the play-throughs I have watched, the maps generally look the same, just with nicer textures.

I love TLOU, I still hold it up as my 'game of all time', but I am happy to sit on my hands with this one and wait until it comes down to 30-40 quid now or second hand idk.

It was a rebuild from ground up.
The end product gives you the same "shot by shot" experience, but this is not a Remaster, this is a Remake. 99% of those whining about the cost seem to think the two words are interchangeable.

Aside from the 1% who care, it doesn't really matter whether it is a remaster or a remake - the end result is the same, a minor refresh of a recently refreshed game.
It didn't take the amount of effort a "from the ground up" game would take - there isn't a new story, there isn't a new game engine, motion capture data is taken from the original game production process, and indeed some of the assets will have come from TLOU Part 2 (as it was the flashback scenes that were inspiration for the "remake" to be made).

For 70% of the effort involved, 70% of the price is fair :)

It was a rebuild from ground up.
I know ND say it was, but is it really though? Like I said, from watching people's playthroughs of the game, the 'map' (so to speak) looks exactly the same in places; the house that Sarah is walking around for example, still has the oddly ginormous hallways and landing area, something that seemed quite common in PS3-era games. Likewise, the areas that Joel and Tess move around look largely the same; save for maybe some newer looking textures/vistas and updated water effects. If it were truly a ground-up rebuild, I would have at least thought that meant an overhaul of the map to not only make it look nicer, but maybe a bit more 'busy' and life-like.

I have premium but for some reason certain games that i thought were on extra/premium are not showing as available unless i buy them. Ghost of Tsushima DC and Death Stranding DC to name a couple.

Just to update this. For some reason even though i am showing as having Premium it was not showing that i could get these games from the PSPlus collection via the store via a browser. When i logged into my PS5 (Had been off for a while as i was decorating), they were there and available to download no problem. I wonder if it was because i had Plus+Now and it had changed over and i got premium till end of oct. Who knows?

As far as TLOU is concerned, i am sure they have put a load of time and effort into it and modernising the game but i have played the original and the remastered versions through and to be honest would only really be bothered doing that again if it was costing me very little/free. I had PSNow and played TLOU2 though and it was free. I can see this being one of the plus games in 6 months.

Is plus extra worth the money, what are peoples experiences like?

Extra definitely as that gets you a shedload of games in the PS+ catalogue. But Premium, for me, no. I don't play PSone or PS2 games and I've done a lot of the PS3 ones when it was PS Now. There are some PS4 games in the Premium catalogue - remasters of PS3 games mostly but I've also played a lot of them on PS Now. It might be worth subbing to Premium for 1 month if you have some you want to play, then dropping back to Extra.
