I thought the problem was with 2.4 not installing properly on some machines, so I would guess the reason for the 'new' software being labelled 2.4 would be to prevent machines from re-installing the new software when (I'll make a big assumption here) possibly the only thing to be fixed would be the installation process (other errors people are getting could be related to something else or part of 2.41 when it does come out) - no point in risking previously working 2.4 machines breaking if the only fix is to do with installation?
Yes, I saw the same problem earlier.
I even went so far as to delete my motto, logged out, back in, and then everybodys motto had disappeared. I had a game of something, and when I came out, it was fixed.

Nope, haven't seen that.
If Sony are saying it's no good I'm going to believe them.
It can't be all bad if they released it in the first place, no one here has had any major issues with it. I, myself have never had any major issues with it except today when it hardlocked. My PS3 seems to do the strangest things anyway, mine always does the 3 beeps while shutting down!
I just noticed that too, about half with my cool motto
I thought people where trying to pull a joke on me but then i realised im not ccool enough for that!

obviously it isnt bad if you can flash it and boot afterwards. for people that couldnt they have just lost all their downloads, all their saves, everything. thats a good enough reason to pull it and i say if you havent got it now just wait. sony will sort it soon enough.

It's kinda like play russian roulette with an expensive piece of kit though is it not...I'd give it a miss
My PS3 started to do that as well (4 weeks ago), but not all the time, mostly when I shutdown when in a game instead of going to the XMB first.
