**The Official Returnal Thread**

As far as quality and gameplay go, this is more than a £30 game but the problem is it might just not be your cup of tea so I'd wait as well.

So I ended up picking it up. But I very much agree with the comments about dying meaning starting from the beginning again to suck. Why not just do it like hades? I did not mind dying when it means strengthening for the next turn.

Hmm yes I did eventually complete this game. Its good but also a bit of a slog.

As for tips, I think the main one is go through every biome and try and power up as much as possible before moving on to the next.

Dont take the short cuts because you are missing out on a lot of the power ups, items and health.

For sure this it does feel like a slog and I age not even played it 10 hours yet. If they every make a sequel they should sort it out so dying does not literally mean having to begin with no improvements.

More tips:

They say you should not get the health items (green things) unless you are at 100% health. That way they go towards increasing your health bar.

Thats in an ideal world.

You do get stronger because the weapon trait unlocks are permanent and the unlocked items get permanently added to the pool available during your next run, you also unlock a new gadget after Ixion in Biome 2 and you'll get shortcuts between Biomes and a hard checkpoint after 3.

It's just more subtle and RNG-dependent and why it's like that I have no idea, I haven't even completed it yet due to leaving it after I'm done with other games so I can focus on it, reached the end of Biome 3.

Basically the entire game is like a planned run through Biomes where you try to get as strong and play as consistently as possible to be ready for the bosses, no other way around that and I understand it might not be everyone's cup of tea.
Hell, it might not even be mine when I get back to it but it is what it is, enjoyed the reruns so far and definitely felt like I myself was getting better on top of unlocked weapon traits and other stuff.

Yea, weapon traits and item unlocks are such small things though. It just is not satisfying. Hades did it much better imo. As I said, the gameplay itself is fun and graphics are very good, really shine on OLED and HDR. If they got the rest of the game right it would have been a lot more popular imo.

I fully intend to complete it. But it feels more like a game you play on the side because once you die after 1-2 hour run you don’t immediately fancy having another go starting from scratch.

Managed the 2nd Biome, The boss was **** easy this time. Did not even come close to needing my extra life.

What I noticed is the game seems to give you easier playthroughs after a while. On this occasion there was more of everything.

4th biome boss tends to be a fan favourite.

Yeah, was fun. Beat her earlier.

2 biomes to go. As much as I love the game play, can't wait until it ends. They just did not get the repetitive nature of it right. Pretty sure the missing element is getting a reward for your hard work, instead you get frustration which is not why I play games for these days. Not frustration of this kind anyways

Finished it. Around 17ish hours. What a chore it felt like. Never again will I buy a game like this. Just not for me. I need to be rewarded with something when I die like in Hades which was great, not start all over again. Whose brilliant idea was that?

I never realised I was even in Biome 6 by the way as I was expecting a boss fight :D

I’m still on level 1. Keep trying to get some decent equipment before I head up against the boss but keep dying while trying to do so! It’s a good game but brutal
