**The Official Returnal Thread**

At first I hated the rotgland gun but it ended up being one of my favourite weapons, partly because it has no maximum range which made it especially good for bosses, cant remember the boss names but the "flying" boss where you end up on floating platforms was so easy once I had a powerful rot gun, I just stayed miles away from the boss on a platform far out of the bosses reach and let the rot do all the damage

I didn't know about its range, that definitely makes it better.

Picked up the last missing cipher a couple of days ago. Still need to try out the DLC.

Biggest things that helped me early on:

1) Fire and forget damage over time wins most fights. Electropylon driver, rotgland lobber, hollowseeker with serrated projectiles. Get some hits in and focus mostly on moving around more.

2) Melee is actually pretty high damage, but it's not worth overextending to use it. Don't be afraid to use it though.

3) You're invulnerable while using the grappling hook. Abuse that with damage over time.

4) Try to only pick up the silphium when you're on full health for the extra health bar. Use vials or convert corrupted health using ether to get to full health before picking up the silphium.

5) Try to avoid spending money before finding the astronaut figurine for the resurrect, unless it's something you really need.

I did this today and finally defeated Nemesis.

Some how I ended up with a level 15 weapon, pretty much a full health bar, 1 large and 3 small siphums and still it went down to the wire.

But at least I finally progressed to the next level.

---

Its a very different game but it has a little bit of a "From Software" feel to it this game. I say that becuase it took about 2hrs to go through all 3 biomes and finally kill Nemesis. The boss fight had a lot riding it on as I did not want to have to go through all that again so the boss fight was nervy.

At least now you will restart in the fourth biome. Enjoy it before the fifth one.

I managed to get to the last boss on my first attempt.

Unfortunately I made a big mistake. I had full health and one more blue triangle room to explore before the boss.

In the blue triangle room was one of those enemies that fire malfunctions at you and got me to critical health in no time.

I then ended up limping in to the final boss battle half dead. The boss dropped a green siphium but it wasn't enough.

Also the weapon I had wasn't great either. (Pyroshell Caster)

Issue is now I'm struggling to get back there. Its quite a long hard run.

The malfunction projectiles suck. That was definitely unfortunate. I'm not a big fan of that weapon either, especially in that biome.

The good news is you can take a shortcut straight to the underwater area from near the Hyperion boss. I don't necessarily find the fifth biome worth the effort. I suppose you can actually go to the fifth biome to check the item room for an astronaut, or whatever else you fancy, then jump straight into the pool.

Do we have a choice of what weapon traits to use for the guns or is it just random?

Completely random as far as I know.

I really enjoyed the Hyperion fight just for the music. :D

Probably the most memorable fight in the game for me.

What should I do with the malignant items such as obelites and chests? (biomes 4-6)

Thus far I ignore them as I don't like the malfunctions.

Also I ignore the fallen scouts.

I ignore the malignant stuff in general, unless I'm at 30 ether and there's more to pick up, or a fallen scout to fight. Then I'll spend some to cleanse it.

Fallen scouts depends on my mood I think. If I've got a great weapon I'll probably risk it. If you are at 30 ether already there maybe won't be much value to the fight though.

Finally killed the last boss!!

The rivers of red... I never found a way to cross some of those safely.

I'm reading online about something to do with collecting sundisks or something after you finish the game to unlock the real ending....

Don't think I can be bothered with that to be fair.

Game was good but I just wanted to get it finished in the end.

Yeah, I watched the 'real' ending on YouTube - didn't much feel like playing through the whole game again to see it.

Picked this up for what should end up being £25 after cashback recently. Finished System Shock and will be playing this next. Will keep me busy until Starfield is out :D

Completed the first Biome 1. Almost did it on my 2nd go too. But after that started to die quite a bit due to taking chances and remapping keys which took time getting used to. Once I was ready I did a proper explore the map run and managed to kill the boss :D

Any tips @OpenToSuggestions ? You was one of the last people in the thread to play it as I recall. I am open to any suggestions you may have :p:D

Not me sorry! :D.

If you walked through the first biome without too much hassle, you should be fairly okay really.

The fifth biome will probably wake you up a bit.

Nearly killed the boss on the 2nd Biome but geez does it take a lot longer to get to him and you kind of need to in order to level up a bit. I would have killed him had I had the astronaut (2nd life).

But that was my 2nd or 3rd go I think. Trouble is each go takes about an hour or so and when you die it is really annoying.

I think what I am disliking about this game is the lack of things you get wrong to keep for subsequent goes. They should have done it in a way where you could upgrade yourself a bit to make each subsequent go a but easier. Right now I just feel like I wasted my time a bit instead.

Fun gameplay, but definitely could be much better with a few tweaks imo.

My bad. It is @opethdisciple I think? Lol

Hmm yes I did eventually complete this game. Its good but also a bit of a slog.

As for tips, I think the main one is go through every biome and try and power up as much as possible before moving on to the next.

Dont take the short cuts because you are missing out on a lot of the power ups, items and health.
