Hard to believe we have had 10 years of the S range. I think my first glimpse into the S range was helping a friend fix her husband's S2, then another friend had issues with the S3 (God that phone was frustrating at times) and I finally got the S4 which was a great introduction into the Samsung ecosystem.

I haven't read too much into the S10 family other than it will have 3 iterations, incorporate the new One UI and hopefully have a serious upgrade in hardware (mainly the camera to rival the Pixel 3). The Unpacked event has been announced for February 20th.

Off to do some research..............

Tips & Tricks

Background/ad-free YouTube (non-root method)

This has changed slightly since posting it in the Note 8 thread. We now need to download an app called YouTube Vanced (YV) which you can grab over at XDA. I did the following to get it working:
  • Make sure 'unknown sources' is allowed in security options, allowing you to install 3rd party apps
  • Download the version of YV you want and install
  • Download MicroG Vanced and install
All working fine here and in black :D.

User tips

  • In Developer Options - change the animation scales (3 instances) to 0.5x for a smoother feel
  • Install Package Disabler Pro - this is a handy app that disables a lot of bloatware (and more if you wish)
  • Install Greenify - which puts unused apps to sleep

I’m going to be honest, the approach by adding the lite to the range is intriguing to me. A side mounted fingerprint scanner sounds ideal and if the specs are essentially the same as the S10 with a lower price then it may be a very good option.

While I’m enjoying my iPhone X the whole thing is now starting to bore me ever so slightly with the lack of customisation of the home screen. (It’s taken me 2 years to get bored).

Under screen FPS's seem a great idea but given that about half of the phones I see people holding have broken or cracked screens are they really practical for the masses?
A colleague dropped his OP6T onto the carpet of my car from the sitting position and the screen cracked rendering the FPS useless, the screen still worked though.

edit: thought the pics were showing an under screen FPS but it seems the rumours above are side mounted, everything I've read though points to an ultrasonic in display FPS.

If they used their common sense, they would have a secondary one on the back.

Excuse the messy OP, I will tidy it up in due course when more officials photos/releases come through.

I'll be definitely getting the S10. I'm still using my S8, got it at launch. Still doing me well. Hopefully Samsung come out with a new wow factor this time ..

Haha I was talking about the unpacked event.

May equally apply to the S10 :D

I have an S9+ and confess to have been fairly disinterested with the S10 leaks. But then I'm probably going to be happy enough to stick with my current phone. Never say never though ;)

I have an S6 and prefer the S6 design to the S10.
I don't want the screen to go all the way to the edge so I can actually hold the thing without pressing buttons.
I don't want a hole in the corner which makes it look like a keyring.
I don't care about having a selfie camera at all because I'm an adult and don't take selfies.
3.5mm headphone jack is a must-have feature.

What I want is S6 +battery +5G.
