*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

Thought for the day:

Do you think Samsung phones would sound better if they just lost the "Galaxy" brand? Samsung S4, S3, S2 sounds better imo.

I don't know about that but do they do need to refresh it definitely, it can't go on forever. I think 4-5 is the limit you can take it. Samsung Galaxy S6 just doesn't roll off the tongue.

Perfect timing for when my contract is up for renewal. Can't wait to get rid of my Desire HD, it's served me well but it's starting to die on me :p

This could be my next phone. Contract will be due for renewal. Then again if it's not all that I'll keep the sgs2 for a bit longer.

4.5 is the sweet spot...Lumia 920 is looking better every day...

Just have to say, the 920 at 4.5" is stupid tbh when its the same size if not bigger then most 4.7" android phones, they had a nice sized screen but then added so much glass around it :S.

Staying on topic, I don't really have high expectation for this thing, I believe in terms of hardware it will be the same as everything else, be announced a bit later and steal the android game up. Only thing that I look forward to is the screen, at this point is the only thing I think Samsung can really do to make a big difference, apart from making a premium feeling phone for once imirite :P, love my S2 but damn thing doesn't even being to be in the same class as what HTC have been doing lately.

All Samsung have to do in order to really impress me is:

- design nicer looking phones, I think the note II looks nice, however, they "need" to loose the hard home button and go all capacitive or use on screen buttons and preferabaly drop the glossy plastic look, have had that look since the GS 1 now and it does look dated and rather cheap IMO, preferably go with the same sort of finish as the one X, nokia lumia's or even better....... aluminium uni-body! :p
- use a different colour scheme for touchwiz i.e. just stock ICS/JB colours, completely redesign their stock apps so they have a unified feel throughout and are better organised/laid out

I have to give it to Samsung though, they have been superb with software updates so far, have definitely improved since the GS 1 and GS 2 days and if they update the GS 2 and/or note 1 to JB before HTC update the one S, then HTC can wave good bye to a customer. They really have lost the plot now:

- releasing too many versions of the same phones, like 6 versions of the one S now!!! Despite saying before the release of the one series that they release where they have been going wrong and will cut down on how many phones they release..........
- lying about updates and their whole update policy sucks, the one S could have been updated like a month ago and the one SE has had JB for that long now (same hardware), same goes for most of the UK X devices except the X+ has been around longer than a month....

In fact just reading that back, has totally put me of any future phones released by them!

Having hard home buttons on mobile devices these days just feels dated IMO, also another thing to break/wear out/become loose, ruins what could be a sleek/minimal looking front.

On screen buttons are nice as they are flexible, you can change them yourself if you want i.e. the colour, size, add/remove buttons or completely remove it etc. they adapt depending on the task that is being carried out, more future like, when the screen is off, the front is just a sleek minimal front, which I think gives the device a nice futuristic look :p Only disadvantage of them is you have a big bezel on the bottom, even though in theory you should have a thinner bezel due to no buttons......

Capacitive buttons more or less the same as above, except none of the flexibility.

Why the obsession with touchscreen buttons? Massively prefer the hard button on my note 2.

Agree. No to all software buttons. I believe Samsung themselves will keep hardware buttons hopefully. Love latest Android O/S but it really pizzes me off with waste of screen for buttons. It's bonkers unless the entire front is All screen. Have a nice Christmas.

There is only the one hardware button on the front of Samsung phones, the menu and return key are capacitive buttons I.e. touch sensitive. Capacitive are buttons that aren't part of the screen and so will use the exact same space as what hardware buttons would.

On screen buttons is when the buttons are part of the screen itself.

I like being able to use my home button with my gloves on though, plus it gives more options when needing key-press combination to access bootloaders n whatnot.

I'm holding off selling the S3 now, wanted the nexus 4 but it would be a sidestep at best and I'm sure I'd long for the S4 once it was released. Hopefully they will change the design somewhat as I'm not really that convinced of my S3, or at least on release day allow us black/grey/dark anything! Not a fan of white, blue, red etc.

Love the HTC buttons or even better stock Google, I hate how multi tasking works on Samsung phones and everything that doesn't have a multi-tasking buttons. At this point everything else seems stupid too me. Once you see just how good it is you really cant go back.
