*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S6/Edge Thread ***

I'm willing to bet you're still in the minority.

Apple sold 10 million handsets across the iPhone 6 and 6 plus during the first launch weekend. Their devices don't feature removable storage or batteries.

It took Samsung three months to sell 12 million GS5s.

The iPhone has never had removable storage; the Galaxy S phones have for many years.

They are not upsetting just a small number of users by doing this.

Looked better in previous images. It's kinda bland actually.

Really not happy with no SD card, glass back and not waterpoof. Not good, seems a massive step backwards.

Plenty of competition on Android, not so on iOS.

Exactly, a device that has never had removable storage has always outsold any other single handset when launched.

You're surmising, you don't know if this is upsetting a large amount of users. Sony are offering all these supposed holy grail features (except removable battery) and are still not able to sell enough volume to make their mobile division profitable.

I don't care for expandable storage because it's not a valid solution to running out of internal storage on Android. You should know the reasons why.

Samsung's marketing and store presence will sell the majority of phones, not the SD card. If they offer large storage options then I don't see a big problem other than the cost inevitably increasing (which isn't ideal, but there we go).

The video says no water resistance. Is this real life? :(

Like I'm going to believe some exclusive video. Waiting for some official stuff.

Here at Samsung we like to listen to customers, our research shows that people didn't need a SD card slot, removable battery or water resistance so we removed them for the upcoming Galaxy S6.
Users did however show a keen interest in the handy dandy heart rate monitor so we decided to keep that. We have taken technology to the next level with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and we hope you enjoy it.

Yours truly,
Mr J.K Shin!

It still demonstrates that people put other features ahead of removable storage. If it was that important, people wouldn't buy an iPhone - they would turn to platforms that can support removable storage.

I'm sure there are previous iPhone users who have turned away from the platform for that very reason, but not enough for Apple to start selling less handsets. For the majority of people, removable storage isn't a big loss.

Exactly. I love how many people like to believe the general OcUK user viewpoint echos that of the general marketplace.

People love to moan online. Go look at the Gillette Flexball posts on Facebook and you'll see majority of comments are people moaning about the cost of blades. Gillette will still sell hundreds of thousands in the matter of weeks.

No sd card is not a deal breaker for me personally but if there was an equal phone that had an SD slot I'd go for the latter.

Good post. I think the general OCUK view (I exclude myself from that subset of users) represents a tiny minority - probably less than 1% of users. Normal people have no interest in custom ROMs and so on. It's not 'normal'. What is 'normal' is to get a stock mobile and use it as stock.

I said that pages ago about the non removable battery.

This is a forum of geeks, geeks represent a tiny proportion of the phone sales.

I've been subscribed to "Unbox therapy" on youtube for years. The guy has exclusives like this all of the time. He's had exclusives on multiple iphones, android devices, the ps4, tablets, £100k+ sports cars etc. He's 100% legit. He has almost 2 million subscribers and 240milion views. If what he's said in the S6 video is wrong, then it's the first time I've ever known him to be!

Anyway I'm quite liking the look of the s6 but I'd find the screen way too small so I will be waiting for the note 5 :)

Having a none removable battery & no SD card slot won't be an issue for most people, actually sometimes SD card can be more trouble than they worth, look at the past Samsung Galaxy phone and how many people had problems with SD card failing all of the time.

Tbh in built storage is a much better more reliable & faster option than SD cards, 32GB will be the biggest seller as this is more than enough for the average folk with both the 64GB & 128GB versions for those that like movies or tons of music on their phones.

More or less need a minimum of 64gb now, with things like 40mins 1080p shows taking 2gb now it stacks up really quickly. 1 Season of something and your down 30gb+, throw in your photos, games, apps. Quickly have no storage.

If they do remove SD cards, they should now they have a small but very vocal group of users that have huge ass SD cards.

In the same vain you don't hear "normal" people saying "Gosh darn I wish my phone was metal and glass" its a small number of tech bloggers and users on places like OCUK that want that too.

People might not necessarily complain, but everyone will notice the metal and glass. It will change the perception people have of samsung phones.

How many people will really feel the loss of an SD card slot?

So your comparing expandable storage to OS+Ecosystem when choosing a phone? Riiight.

So if theoretically Apple made the iPhone 6 with and without expandable storage your saying the latter woudn't sell more? Hmmm yeaah.

Cos I spend 4 hours commuting to and from work each day and have tonnes of stuff to catch up with because my work / home life is extremely hectic.

The fact that you have to spell out to him why you need the extra says it all really. Can't see past his own bubble.

I don't think this is true, I have a lot of friends and family that move between iPhone -> Samsung -> HTC. Samsung has for the most part just been plastic and "bad" but I've never once heard someone mention it, no one has told me it felt cheap, or that their HTC/iPhone was better. Too me personally, I see a huge difference, but to all my friends and family, I've noticed no difference.

I would guess anyone with a 16gb that wants more storage, Apple run into a lot of issues recently when 16gb users couldn't do the OTA update. OR anyone that uses once currently, it might not be the deciding factor to their purchase but can easily be a negative. More over when both the HTC M8 and Z3 have SD cards, what will Samsung excuse be?
