*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S6/Edge Thread ***

I got my S6 Edge+ plus from 3, Although it comes unlocked it does have the 3 start-up logo and some 3 apps that can be uninstalled, is it worth flashing a stock ROM or is there no point?

Keep it for now. If you've got any warranty issues it avoids any need to flash plus you should get an update to enable VoLTE soon :)

I've gone back a few pages without finding the answer to this, also nothing concrete on Google about it. Have recent software updates reduced or eliminated the random battery drain from apps or the OS? My wife is due an upgrade from her iphone 5s and this would be near perfect (and much cheaper than an iphone 6s), but I can't in good conscience inflict Android's foibles and random battery drains on her. For example, my Note 2 is currently on 51% battery with 18m SoT and the rest burned away in the background with no obvious reason why. I can sort of live with this happening (and it's quite regular), but I wouldn't expect my wife to.

Edit this refers to s6 non edge

Mine is fine. I daily get 4-5 hours screen on time with a little juice left in the battery. Also, the marshmallow update won't be far off now with the battery saving features such as doze etc.

SoT is fine but the standby time sucks. If I just left my S6 idle and not connected to WiFi, I doubt it would last much more than 48-60 hours. Hopefully Marshmallow will fix it.

Battery life on the S6 is hilariously bad. It's comical how bad it is.

I actually think it's okay in the context of a single day. Across one day I get about 3.5-4 hours SoT, which I consider acceptable. But that 3.5 hours drops away rapidly if your usage over a couple of days because the standby life is so bad.

My brother has an iPhone 6... he went abroad and left it at home and switched on. It lasted 10 days before the battery died. I bet I'd get about 3 if I did the same test on the S6.

I always get through a 12 hour shift at work with the battery on 20-50% depending what I've been using it for.

Not really any different to any other phone I've ever used, apart from the Z3C or similar.

Works for me.

So it still appears that battery life is good for some, awful for others. This more or less answers the question as I don't want to be getting asked every night by my wife why her phone battery is at 30 percent even though she's been at work all day and looked at Facebook for 20 mins over her lunch time.

Her iphone 5s doesn't have any of these problems (though the SoT probably isn't amazing) and as a non-technical user I get the impression she should stick to iOS as much as that sticks in my craw and my wallet.

Well it's not an Android/iOS thing, more of a Samsung put a small battery into an incredibly power hungry device thing.

Surely it's the screen that does most of the power draw? The general consensus seems to be 3.5 to 4 hrs SoT, with others complaining about the device discharging much quicker, which suggests apps or touch wiz up to mischief.

The random battery drain in standby (and poor standby life generally) is definitely an Android/iOS thing. iOS is much more restrictive about what can run in the background and I think that's the root of it.

Only it's not, because many other phones do not have a similar issue with low SoT and standby power drains.

Look at the Sony Xperia Z3/5 ranges for example. Top end Android phones with 2/3 day battery life. It's most definitely a Samsung design issue :)

Also, the iPhones are not known for having great batteries. In fact most are worse than the S6.

Still, it does me fine and it's only going to get better with updates etc.
