The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Yea it's pretty slow to load once you have a few addons.

I had to move mine off my SSD as my FSX install is now pushing 80GB! Performance is fine in game but things like loading REX themes is so slow now :(

On an unrelated note i got a £15 amazon voucher and decided to pickup Flight Simulator for Pilots: Real World Training which is absolutely fantastic for pilots like me who want to do things semi-realistic but didn't have a clue how to!

Got it loading faster with the scenery cache check unchecked :).

I'd like to get more into Flight simming, I dabbled in it few years ago but recently got a ton of addons/gear because my partners dad died and he had a few things he spent his retirement on to sadly enjoy the time he had left.

I like a casual sight seeing flight, earlier in the year when trying to get my previous pc running FSX okay I flew from Southhampton to the Isle of wight, round the needles and back again, really relaxing time at dusk.. however one problem I seem to have with FSX is small flights seem a bit difficult as the scenery is flat and just phototexture, its a shame :(.

It seems you either have random textures with autogen or phototextures like GenX that has nothing on it?

David

EarthSimulations do a trees addon for the GenX photo areas. Worth looking at to add some 3D-ness to the flat photo textures. They also do a product based around Shawbury where every house, pylon, mast etc is also modelled and placed over the photo scenery but unless you've got a OTT PC it will struggle with Scenery density and Autogen sliders both up at full.

Yeah i've looked at Treescapes, i don't know how much i'll get into flight simming so I do wish some of the payware addons had demos, like treescapes having a small area as an example before I fork out some cash..

I've got a ton of autogen files to make some areas a bit better though.

If you've got the Midlands (I think rather than North) GenX area there is a 3d demo around Snowdon. If you've not got that installed it's worth a quick look but it's not that large an area.

Here is your wish :D

From orbx it's the only scenery that I use best for GA flying.
Oh and theres lots of trees.

Two screen shots I have taken from the FTX Pacific Northwest Demo flying out of KHQM Bowerman airport.

The orbx stuff is really good, the PNW demo and the tasmania sdemo are great fun to fly around.

UK2000 usually do demo's or 30 day trials of their airports too

Looks nice!

Trying to get into FS'ing, it seems most the time I spend on it is tweaking trying to get it to run well :P

I grabbed that ENB mod which seems to make a difference although I didn't give myself a chance to compare it.. Also using the FPS limiter, I set it to 30 like it says in a guide however it only stays at 30 in windowed, in fullscreen it sticks at 15.. is this a known issue? Is it really 15fps?!

Anyway heres some shots of me trying out FSX :)

Realair Spitfire and VFR London, its so good to be able to use VFR London as the last time I got all this FS stuff working the framerate was so awful unless I put the sliders down loads.. Thank god for new PC :)

Scary Longships lighthouse.. Odd thing here, last time I used FSX I managed to develop a mild fear of out at sea lighthouses because of how eerie they are.. Plus I was listening to some odd Dark Ambient music while trying to find the lighthouse at the time.. I'm over it now after revisiting the lighthouses in FSX :p, still quite eriee and fascinating things though.

The lighthouses, (The Needles, Longships and Wolf Rock are free from Earth Simulations).. If I get into FS to make it worthwhile I hope to purchase their island addons, Isles of Scilly most probably!

Hope you enjoyed.

So I had another blast on VATSIM tonight for the first time in ages.

Started off something like:

<snip/>

All in all, great fun and I won't leave it as long before I'm back online.

Thanks for sharing your experience here. I've still not ventured onto an IFR flight as yet. I'm nearly ready..

Recently I was at Cardiff for a VFR flight. I was cleared onto the runway in my Baron, a 747 was cleared to land after my takeoff. I applied the throttle, was real weather, didn't think to counter it as I was thinking about everything else, got blown off the runway and crashed in seconds. The 747 had to 'go around'... and I looked a noob... :o

I've now been directed to Aivlasoft for their Electronic Flight Bag which should help things. I've got my Flight1 ATR-72 and now their 737NG to do IFR with.

Hmmmm - still struggling with the Anti-aliasing with the 570... Am quite tempted to pop my 5850 back in. Which of course would be a real waste of a 570.

Might try a last hurrah of a FSX re-installation. Maybe do a full on format as it would only take me a couple of hours.

Bit depressing...

Cheers,

Rich

I remember reading this thread and someone sharing their ENB mod config.. Has anyone got a tweaked ENB mod config thats good for FSX?

Cheers

Have you used Nvidia Inspector ?
Here are settings I use.

Rich,

My settings are the same as the link garsands posted, And the image quality is amazing, im running a 570 also. I came from a 6870 and the difference in performance was suprising, FSX deffo likes Nvidia more than ATI

Same here. I still have some annoying flickering but it's bearable.

Cheers chaps,

I've used the settings you've suggested, and while some seem to make a bit of difference, it seems to 'top out' - like it's stuck at 8xS (or maybe it's lower) and increasing the level has no effect (or makes it worse).

Thanks all.

Rich

Yup - trilinear too.

I think I've tried pretty much all iterations of what's available - with no real luck. It's why I'm considering doing a full on format and reinstall; in case something is not quite working with the drivers.

Thanks,

Rich
