The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

I created clean cfg file. I did save my original on another drive.

I don't see any of the below on the new cfg file??

[BUFFERPOOLS]
Poolsize=0 / Usepools=0 (all the same) - referenced as BP=0

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=1

[GRAPHICS]
HIGHMEMFIX=1

FSX.cfg Tweaks for VSYNC:
ForceFullScreenVSync=1 and ForceWindowedVSync=1

[Main]
FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.1

:confused:

You need to add bufferpools, affinitymask sections as they don't exist. You should already have a graphics and main section. Just add the new entries. Also if you are using Kostas guide you shouldn't be using the fsx.cfg vSync entries.

As for the 737 go for the PMDG. I haven't tried the iFly but PMDG generally are regarded as the best out there. It is so in depth and pretty much every button is modelled. They have a very close relationship with Boeing and all the flight performance parameters are apparently within a few % of the real deal. It really is awesome.

There is a big learning curve if you are coming from knowing nothing about it but the guides that PMDG released are very good.

What bluetonic says is mostly correct. I'd just point out that normally you would set your takeoff trim on the ground as given a readout from FMC. Normally the AP will engage as long as you are following the Flight Director profile - certainly that is how I find it on the PMDG anyway. Regarding bleeds it is worth looking at assumed temperatures too. You can 'trick' the FMC by specifying a higher temperature than it actually is. This is useful for preserving engine life and reducing the required engine thrust settings. If you set this properly taking into account weight and runway length then you generally wouldn't have to switch off packs to boost performance. I've only ever done this on the 747 really. Every airline is different in the real world so it just depends on who you are talking to I guess.

Nice to see simming's alive on this board :)

I've flown for a few VA's, only with FS9 though. Now that I'm building myself a new rig I may finally be able to fully enjoy FSX :)

I’ve gone back to my original copy of my cfg file. I just wanted to see if it would make any difference starting a brand new one. It was worse. My original is running nicely. I get a stable 30 fps 95% of the time and that’s with a lot of add ons!

I bought the ifly 737, was cheaper and the reviews are good. I'm happy with that. I will start on that this weekend. Had a little play last night and looking forward to get stuck in!

don't think you want to be setting your AffinityMask to 1, doesn't that limit FSX to using a single core?

Sorry that was a typo. I have mine set to 14. Got it from Kosta’s tweek.

For a quad core running HT off, this should be 14.
For a quad core running HT on, this should be 84

and the manual is approx 500 pages.
Do I start with the 500 page manual or just go straight into the Tutorial one? The 150 page one?

I've just got back into fsx again after 4 years or so, hence all the questions :rolleyes: ;)

Don’t have too much time on my hands, but like to get a couple of hours each night and its a nice change from the MMO’s I play.

Also trying to get some training(turning out to be a bit of a nightmare to be honest) on IVAO. Don’t want to fly on my own! :(

Don't worry about IVAO until you get to grips with the aircraft! Doing all the flying properly is hard enough without having to handle everything an IVAO controller will throw at you!

Going to use my A320 with IVAO, I know it well and enjoy it. The ifly 737 is for offline use only. Cheers.

I thought I knew everything about the 737 and a few years ago I went onto VATSIM and everything was grand until they asked me to hold at some waypoint that wasn't in my flightplan. So trying to fly, not bust any alt/speed restrictions, doing the RT while trying to dig out the proper SID charts certainly made things pretty hectic for a while! Was put into a hold before being vectored into Gatwick. There was absolutely no let up as I was about no6 in traffic. Great fun though.

I was at the Weston Helicopter Museum event yesterday. It was a really good day out.

A shed load (literally) of helipcopters of all shapes and sizes.

They had 5 mins or so helicopter pleasure flights available.

Saitek were their with their 'prop' cockpit setup using their hardware and a plush cockpit dash. I LOVED it.

Two enthusiasts were showing off a really good fsx helicopter setup using 2 display projections on a curved screen and helicopter controls aside of a recaro-style mounted seat with rudder pedals. The experience was really impressive.

PC Pilot were there with plenty of aviation magazine subscriptions for sale.

Lots of Flight Sim Groups showing off their activities including Buffalo Virtual and the Gatwick Flight Sim User Group.

I met Tim from Plan-G fame.

The cafe had chilli on the go.

Credit to the museum for the awesome day.

I too enjoyed the show and the chilli :)

Shame the guys on the Aerosoft stand wouldn't match the 20% off sale the website was doing over the weekend as they would have got a sale.

Not to my knowledge.

Someone should set one up.

The next best thing would be to have a fly-in night on VATSIM either GA or Heavies. A one hour route somewhere in the UK.
