The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Has anyone else tried the latest fsx stutter-fixing tweak by setting vertical sync to 1/2 refresh rate? I'm not so sure how relevant NickN's guide still is with all these crazy specs we have these days.

Not sure which one that is but I've just today tried adaptive vsysnc on the new "unofficial" 301.40 drivers.

fps target - unlimited in fsx.

nvidia inspector set to force vsync on and set to adaptive.

Seemed to work but I didn't like it, too many microstutters. Still much prefer vysnc forced on in N.I. and target fps set to 45.

If you try it with limiting FPS in-game to 30 then you will have more luck. Read Kosta's posts on AVSIM about it for more info. External limiters or unlimited in-game is bad apparently.

This seams to be running better, but now for some reason the text is a bit blurred

will try run it with the limit at 30 too and see which is better

It is a mod that gives different graphics options for games.

Tonight I deleted my fsx.cfg and reconfigured with Kosta's tweaks, disabled TurboBoost in BIOS which dropped me to 3.8Ghz, and removed ENB Series. Somehow I have noticed a fair boost in performance as a result. I miss how ENBSeries looks though.

Nice shots but...poor pax trying to sleep @ that hour and you kept the cabin lights on :(

I don't have that mod but after you mentioned it. I downloaded it and will have a look tonight. Anything I need to do with it, settings wise etc?

Still getting the blurred text, it's only happened after I installed nvidia inspector and followed the settings. Strange!
I also set my FSX target fps to 45, so much better than 30. I'm also running a new GTX670 and have overclocked it too
, which has improved things. Thinking of getting a 2nd one, not sure if it's going to make any difference though?

Were you using SGSS in Inspector? That can cause blurryness I believe. To install enb all you need to do is drop the ini and the d3d9.dll into the FSX root directory. If you are using the 1/2 Vsync tweak then you shouldn't be running at 45FPS. It defeats the whole purpose. You need to match your fsx.cfg frame limit with what you have set in inspector (according to your screen refresh rate).

Interesting may give this a go. I have Turbo Boost always on and ENBseries mod installed, gives a really nice shadow effect which I don't think I could live without.

I always end up changing stuff that undoes the good settings I once had. Right now I'm cruising at 38000 in the NGX and only getting 22FPS. Fair bit of cloud around but nothing major. Very annoying.

Argh I hate it when that happens. TBH, I'm pretty happy with my current settings now and just going to leave them well alone. For example, getting 20-25fps over Melbourne Intl (ORBX) in LVLD-767 and 40-45fps (max set in fsx) at 1500ft over rural areas in PNW. It's a lot smoother than I've ever had before and will stick with it. Now only going to have two saved fsx.cfg files now, one for normal flight and another for photoscenery, before I must have had about 10 with various tweaks and changes but just go waaay to confusing. Anyway a couple more screenshots. :)

not sure about SGSS? thanks for the info about ENB will try that later.

I'm using vsync Force On within Nvidia Inspector and 45 in fsx. does that make sense?

Sparse Grid Super Sampling. It is a setting in Inspector.

This is the guide you need to be reading:
http://forum.avsim.net/tutorials/article/59-software-hardware-guide-for-fsx/

Followed the guide last night and its made a big improvement, thank you!

The only thing I couldn’t find in my cfg file was the bufferspool? Do you have to add this? Also if you want to start a brand new cfg file do you have to uninstall fsx or just delete the cfg file?

Somebody recommended the A320 from Just Flight. Really really enjoying this plane, not very difficult but needs some understanding etc. Thinking of getting the 737 from ifly? Is this any good? They have won a lot of awards.

Backup your good .cfg file somewhere safe!

You can delete or overwrite the .cfg. It's stored under

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX

FSX should create a default one when you next load.

The ifly 737 is simply awesome, although I can't comapre it to the PMDG one as I haven't used it.

If this is going to be the first complex plane you have, please be patient when learning it. I had a really good stepping stone from the Flight 1 ATR.

Here's a quick runthrough of what I personally found with the product.

1. The FMC takes some getting used to. It helps if you can load in a pre-prepared flight plan. I use http://www.simsrd.myzen.co.uk/ for a UK one. I then paste the route into AivlaSoft's EFB. Save it as an iFly Plan. Then load this from the fsx ifly menu. The plane does come with some pre-prepared flight plans.

2. A deliberate thing is that the parking brake needs to be on before you can select 'ground power' from the fsx ifly menu.

3. Learn how to start the APU.

4. Learn how to start the engines.

5. Learn how to use the Boeing MCP.. E.g you can dial in 18000 ft in the 'alt' window, but nothing is going to happen until you tell it how to climb or descend to that alt.

6. Bleeds off takeoff - worth knowing, but not necesserily needed for the NG
http://forum.avsim.net/topic/368101-engine-bleed-off-takeoffs-policy/

7. ANY movent on the joystick is going to disable the AP. Unless you tell it not to in the ifly Config Util.

8. Learn about LNAV and VNAV.

9. Autoland is included

10. Learn and master trimming. AP won't engage if your plane isn't trimmed. Unless you tell it not to in the ifly Config Util.

I was flying the 737-800 in Ryanair colours, then it was only recently I realised that the 737-600 is included and have been loving that at shorter fields. So I've now got the Pan-Am livery.

This may help:- ifly Checklist

They keep on rumouring that there's going to be an update at somepoint. We're still waiting.

Ask away if you have more questions.

If bufferpools does not exist simply add to the correct section (you may need to create that too).

You can rename/delete your fsx,cfg and fsx will create a new default one when it's next run. Sometimes renaming the cfg file is the solution for fsx crashing on startup. Always keep a backup of a good cfg file in case.

edit: opp beaten to it. However fsx.cfg is in
Code:
c:\users\yourloginname\appdata\roaming\microsoft\fsx
on Windows 7. Did XP not have a roaming in the path?

Thanks both for the info on the cfg file. Going to backup it up tonight and try a fresh one with the settings from that website. My current setup is running nicely though. Want to see if it makes a difference.

Yes first complex plane. I think I had a level d 767 a few years back when I first started fsx. Only got back into it again about a month back.

Thanks for the tips. Should I start with the 600 first then?
