The official Sin episodes thread

oooh i completely forgot about Sin... i don't even have Steam installed on my PC, completely slipped my mind after my new build (a few months ago now).

installing Steam+HL2+CC:S etc... now... gonna purchase and have a go at downloading Sin once Steam updates itself

just completed it, it was fun

enjoying the game play, much more arcade like... and some of the gunfights are memorable. graphics are good, some parts look better than others and the level design is quite good (think the indoor areas of farcry). oh and the hand grenades are awesome :)

only downer with the game was that being the gameplay was arcade like, some of the fighting near the end were tedious, like fighting off just dozens of the 'harder' enemies at a time and waiting for them to stop coming

and there are a couple of neat twists in there aswell

Gave it a half hour play time last night. Liked it a lot. Charater animations aren't quite up there with HL2 (the eyes in particular), but it was fun, and I liked the ability to melee with most weapons, which is missing from a lot of games.

I think it will get another hour or so of my time tonight.

How long did it take you to complete Theo?

it didn't take long at all, something like two and a half too three hours at a difficulty of half way between hardest and medium (the difficulty slider is floating point based so you choose a difficulty that you want ranging from 0.0 too 1.1)

but i rushed and i really mean rushed through that game, i could have made it last a couple more hours at least

but what i like about it being episodic is that the story is going to unravel slowly as it would in a book, not just fit the whole thing into a twelve hours span but this will be drawn out :)

so do you think that we would be looking at between 6-8 hours on the hardest setting if you took time to explore the world and didn't rush?

i think im near the end now and so far ive played for about 4 hours on the hardest setting. Ive lots of secrets including the green frog that gives you 200 health :p

There isn't such a thing as the hardest setting really. I only put the slider on the in between casual and hardest and it started off pretty easy although has definitely got harder. I reckon if it was on the absolute hardest setting i.e. to keep it at this you would rarely die, then it would take at least 4, probably 5 to finish. Pretty decent value for £10, over 9 episodes it should be a great series.

I only had a quick blast last night and even though they have half-lifed it compared with the original, it seems fun. Chaingun guys are irritating as possible though.

I can't wait till episode 2 and multiplayer comes around. Be interesting how they incorporate the stuff you did in EP1 affecting other episodes.

Yeah it seems very hard, kinda overly so in some places. Sometimes you die and have pretty much no escape. I didn't realise that the sight (press Z) on the assault rifle was so useful though, been using it unsighted for most of the game until near the end.

The chaingun guys are pretty annoying en masse, unless you have assault rifle secondary ammo.

I cranked it to just past half way and left the give me help setting low. I completed it, funnily enough I found the high rise section the easiest :D. Last boss managed to kill me a few times but up to that point think I only died once or something.

Playing through it again in normal mode looking for more secrets and then I'll try Hardcorps mode. The thing about the difficulty is that if you act like a noob then supposedly the difficulty drops, me being a pro ;) the difficulty gets ramped pretty high.

I only thought it was really bad when you were surrounded by chaingunners but that was before I started using the secondary ammo more combined with the scope of the AR.

Aaah, I didn't move the 'difficulty' slider, so that'll be it.

My next runthrough will be with it all the way to the right.

What 'skill' rating do you have, according to the stats page?

My mate downloaded this, I remeber the original SiN and that was a cracking game, had a quick look at it after he downloaded it, looks very very cool :) Esp if the original is coming with it for £13 think I might get it myself.

I've played a couple of hours of it now and it was really good, but now it's too bloody difficult! I chose the bar below the middle bar for the difficulty when you start the game. But these mini-gun type baddies just keep coming at me, and there's hardly any health around. Hmmmm, I'll try to keep going, if it's still enoying I'm going to have to cheat through this bit at least.

(btw, if you havn't got it yet it's worth the money I rekon)
