Songbird is an open source, cross-platform media player that is under constant development by the Mozilla foundation.

Amongst its list of great features is the firefox style third party plugin support and frequent updates.

Known Issues & (Possible) Fixes
FLAC files not playing after installing Lyrics plugin
This can due to the lyrics plugin. When it downloads the lyrics for the first time, it fails to play the track. Play it again, having saved the lyrics, and no problems.

Have been using Songbird 1.0 on my laptop, it's come a long way since 0.3!

Glad all my music is tagged properly, it's really worth it!

Just installed SB1.0 now. Quite impressive. Has moved a long way since 0.7 when I last used it. RAM usage is roughly similar to Winamp so I might be persuaded to swap. Installing some plugins and extensions etc. Working out how to install Album Art, something I feel Winamp wasn't too hot on.

Indeed. That and the active, speedy, and best of all open-source development. It really is looking sweet.

Might get my act together and write a few Media plugins I've always wanted. Winamp 2.8 support here I come!
If you want a beta tester let me know! :)

Edit: Installed the MinimizeToTray extension and it isn't minimising to tray but the Start bar. It is an extension for Songbird 0.3 so I'll let the developer off! :p

Yeah! All of the album art addons appear to be for <0.8 so i'm just waiting for those to appear before syncing. Took me ages to get my album aret right even through iTunes so i don't want to sync without it now ;)

Some of the albums have had art added automatically, but i haven't worked out how to do the rest yet! (Except manually download every cover and add them that way. might end up doing that if the addons don't show up by the time i go away!)

I can't see from here 'cause i'm at work... but do those albums have the album art already in the directory you chose as your library? I thought about it in the car on the way here. Some of my album folders have art that um... came with it? :/

Obviously there's a few teething problems here but i'm happy with where it's going!

Ooh that'd be ace Marc!

Songbird is looking really sweet. The built in browser and such are nice touches too. Just really liking it so far.

Automatic album art is being worked on.

Yeah Songbird looking pretty fab so far. I read somewhere that Songbird 1.1 will have the automatic album art. Still getting some albums showing album art, even though those albums never had album art in Winamp. I don't understand what is going on here!

I did give songbird a go last night, and its really not bad now its hit 1 moved on a lot from 0.3 agreed. But it just doesn't handle my huge library as well as MediaMonkey does. I want to really like songbird but i've got to keep going back to MediaMonkey for actual features. I guess songbird is completely free whereas the decent version of MM isn't... But either way at present i think it's worth the little extra for the benefits :)

It's weird seeing that i have posts in a thread i've never read ;)

This'll be good. We can keep it updated with some awesome addons too, which look like they're beggining to pick up pace now that 1.0 has been released.

I know. I thought the same. :p

Yes, we can post plugins found on the Songbird site or ones any of us develop. That and info/news on Songbird future releases etc. :)

I doesn't seem to seeing the album art I embedded into my tracks.

It doesn't display any in cover flow either, displays fine in windows explorer and WMP though.

Any ideas guys?

How does this compare to Foobar2K? That screenshot looks like it does what Foobar does?
Erm not used Foobar so I can't really compare. Basically they both play media and both have extensions or plugins. Don't think Songbird is as customisable as Foobar yet but perhaps more skins and plugins will be released for Songbird to reduce the gap to Foobar.

I reinstalled and it displays them fine now. Works very nicely now :).
Excellent. :)

So what's so special about this program? I've just looked on the wbsite and can just see another iTunes/WMP clone (this one more iTunes looking)?
