*** The Official Songbird Thread ***

Wow im quite impressed (played with it at 0.6 and the medialibrary wasnt up to scratch) only one thought though, any idea how to make it fade between tracks? (winamp style)

Having never heard of songbird before this thread, i have just given it a whirl and loving it so far!

Ah cheers MarcLister, good to know theres something on it at least.

Looks liek this will be my media player for linux at least :)

I had a look at that before but the only thing that really stands out is the custom playlists, which doesn't seem to be a major reason for a change.

I'm not trying to put it down but I am interested as to why I should change from WMP or even winamp for it.:)

If it came up with something similar to the senseme playlists on the new Sony Walkmans then I would definately consider it.

Don't know this senseme playlists but why not give Songbird a go? It might have a better UI or work better for you, in such a way that we can't tell you about unless you try it for yourself. :)

I may have a go in the near future, I was just wondering if there was some major breakthrough in the the program or something.:)

The walkman analyses the song beat/tune and sticks it in a specific channel, like "extreme", "classical" etc. It's brilliant and since I got my walkman I have had it on that the entire time.

It's an open source iTunes with Mozilla backing. Whats not to like?

iTunes, Mozilla?:p

Two of the worst programs around imo.:o

Blame the useless bloody UB that asked for the posts to be split ;)

Er it's written in Songbird code?:p

I think he meant Mozilla as in the foundation and not the Mozilla browser but more the Mozilla people behind Firefox. :)

Just installed this, got a lot of potential. Love the Flickr integration, wish it could be switched to fullscreen mode and it pulled in more photos.

Two things I really want to see if this Album List get updated for 1.0. And proper Last.FM integration like Banshee.

At the bottom of http://getsongbird.com/features/ it has a Beta section. Album art will be forthcoming in a future Songbird release.

As it stands there aren't a lot of reasons for switching to SongBird. I think what I, and the others backing it, are excited about is that it's a free, open source iTunes rival that will, hopefully, be much more community orientated, frequently updated and have huge potential for addons much the same vain as Firefox.

If SongBird can do for music what FireFox has done for browsing, i'll be very happy indeed :)

It's still early days, but this 1.0 release is a huge step in the right direction, and so far it;s showing excellent potential!
