That was incredible!!

That's was utterly amazing. That was an epic test flight! It did everything they hoped for. Looks like they lost an engine at the end during landing. It was right on target though. Incredible achievement!

Yeah, only 2 of the 3 raptor engines fired up, so descent speed was impaired.

That was awesome. I am sure with the data gathered from this jump they will get it right the next time. Great job SpaceX.

Looks like another was lost on the descent too. 2 fired, splash of green flame, second (right hand) engine went out, then more green flame from left hand engine and only that one was burning at touchdown/impact, and green flame.

Looks like the igniter fuel (TEB, same as the SR71 used) igniting. Horrendous stuff, ignites on contact with air and buns bright green.

Sweet, wonder what plans they have to allow for engine failure on landing, if it had flipped a bit earlier I wonder if the 1 engine would have been enough to stop the RUD.

Not bad for a 1945 British design is it? :D

Wish we could have a couple of the Canberra's flying in the UK. Fantastic things. WK163 is meant to be in the process of being restored to flight status, but hearing absolutely nothing about it from TVOC sadly.
Saw the Canberra flying at Duxford some years back.

Here we go, it was back in 2004.

Pretty sure I've heard mentioned in one of Everyday Astronauts videos that the raptor doesn't use teb to ignite unlike the merlin.

That. Was. Insane.

I just spent 30 mins stood with my hands on my head laughing my ass off. That was brilliant. Never expected it to get so close to landing.

Elon confirmed fuel pressure issues on landing leading to too much velocity.

They got XH134 flying again, but it only lasted a few years until the money ran out. It was a lovely plane to work on.

It's from the 40's No black boxes of magic smoke, just wires and pulleys. :D

No it's spark ignition

In which case... something was burning that shouldn't have been.

Desperately trying to remember my GCSE Chemistry here (sob... 26 years ago...), green = copper... ?

Yeah sounds like one or more of the metals in the engine burning up. Possibly running lean due to lack of fuel prsssure?
