** The Official Space Flight Thread - The Space Station and Beyond **

These are my lucky space socks :D does anybody else have "silly" space clothing?

Got this on a Tshirt.

Looks like they are going live with video from Mars of the landing on Monday:

Do you know if this will be atypical video frame rate footage or periodic images stitched together? Something I've been wondering since the landing.

im led to believe it’s an actual video, plus they had microphones to capture sound during the descent also.

There will be video, photos and audio as many of the 21 cameras are rolling video which wasn't possible before on previous missions!

Really frustrated by how little information is coming out on progress. What checklist items have been performed, when will the mast be erected? When will the video of the landing be released?

So much excitement, so little information!

Probably been asked already but what kind of bandwidth rates does the rover/its mothership in orbit operate at? Assuming no Virgin packages.

Direct to earth is about 30kb/s maximum. But that's limited in terms of time due to power usage.

There's satellites around Mars that act as relays, the rover can send data to them up to 2mb/s, but only while they are overhead, but this is usually less than 10 minutes at a time so that also limits how much data can be sent. The orbiter can send data back to earth up to 4mb/s and for much longer.

The 4 images from that set are immense, and this isn't even the best quality camera either lol.
