** The Official Space Flight Thread - The Space Station and Beyond **

Thats pretty damn impressive to stick it next to the pre placed bouy. Seems like a pretty successful Starship flight. Looks like the Flaps still need a little work but burn through not nearly as bad as last time. Unless that was a point where they put an Alu test tile?
Bring on IFT-6!!!

Newbie to this here but have seen YouTube/various places on web come alive on this one!

ilIncredible feat of engineering to achieve this. One question, why is this better then the landing onto a platform that they have been doing previously?

Is it to try and lessen the damage to the lower area as it has previously had to get right down to ground which must have been susceptible to damage? Or have I got completely the wrong end of the stick and this is something different?

The rockets coming back to ground always seemed other worldly and incredibly impressive.

No landing legs required means reduced weight, I think.

Faster turnaround as well. Mechazilla can just swing it across on to the launch mount, reconnect to the QD and refill ready for next launch. We are a ways of that though.

Elon seems to have confirmed that "Ship landed precisely on target!"

The rockets that have been doing the barge landings are the smaller and better proven Falcon 9. This is a newer larger rocket that’s not really suited to the barge landing due to the increased size

Looked like an explosion on touch down but hardly surprising the thermal shock of a splashdown must be immense.
Yeah I think right before the explosion it went very blue, I wondered if the rockets were underwater for a moment there, if so that's a very controlled landing. Epic stuff, the catch was unreal! Looking forward to Scott Manley's analysis.

Yep, after watching it a couple of times the booster landing was so smooth you would think it was their tenth landing
