** The Official Space Flight Thread - The Space Station and Beyond **

All we need now is for will.i.am to burst into the control room and let rip with a number dedicated to Curiosity. ;)
[edit]Good job I'm on compassionate leave type thingy, here's me drinking Tiger beer at nearly 7am on a Monday morning, cheers to Curiosity and cheers to everyone who made it all possible.[/edit]

He said something in that interview about a surprise and a song he recorded, I hope to god they're not gonna play it on Curiosity and make will.i.am the first music played on Mars :(

Any idea if better photos will beam down?

At some point, for sure, for now this was just the first pass of communication satellites over the Curiosity!

How exactly do the dust covers "come off"? It'll be a real PITA if they are stuck, not as if we can just go over and remove them.

I take it there is the main mast of the camera that also will be raised with the high res cameras and instruments?

Yep, it should all come together in time, give them a chance, only been landed ON MARS for anout 30 minutes!!! :D

God damn snooze button! Well I'm up half an hour late but first thing I did was check twitter and wow! I was expecting it to fail tbh.

I am SO glad it is safe and we've been given proof already. Looking forward to the next few days to know if all systems made it in one piece.

Incredible.

The lead mechanical engineer definitely has that Morrisey thing going on, thankfully minus his trademark Manc Misery.
Charlie Bolden seems to me to be what "The Dude" would be like if he decided to suit and boot up and join the rat race.

Wow, Did the infamous SpaceX news conference rub off on NASA?, they are a lot less starched and formal than the early days, good on them. :)

Lol, news conference turned into 20 minutes of high fiving...
