*****The Official SSX Thread*****

The rails have always been like that in SSX games

No they haven't, I think you used to spend points on skills that made it easier to stay on them (Stability?). I used to fall off them and miss them all the time.

In fact, I think you used to balance with the right analogue stick in earlier games!

Yeah, that is one of my disappointments with the game. In my mind it's been done to make it easier and more accessible (and therefore get more people playing it).

Some of the grinds in SSX Tricky were crazy, and it took actuall skill to stay on the grind until it finished... it was rewarding when you managed to do it. Whereas in this you just have to get on the grind and then no other skill is required to stay on.

I assume you haven't played it then? Because if you think they've been trying to make it easier then you're a lunatic.

Upping high scores, decreasing race times and adding unseen pitfalls that require a good memory of the course makes it harder to do well in the game, the mechanics behind the gameplay however are easier to master. I think that's the main point :)

It IS still a good game, just with some backwards gameplay steps I would say.

I have played it - all of my characters are on Lvl 5-7 and I'm currently on about 3.5mil credits (probably not loads, but enough for me to form a good opinion about the game).

Sweetloaf explained it perfectly for me though.. It is definitely hard to achieve some of the Gold medals, but some of the underlying mechanics have been simplified and the difficulty comes in the form of higher score brackets instead.

I still really enjoy the game.. once I've put on my custom playlist it's a blast to play! :)

You've highlighted the main problem with this SSX for me there...

So they've taken away the ability to spend time increasing your skill level with the game engine to become a better player and instead replaced it with you just having to train your memory to input the right timings to get better scores.

You fundamentally can't get better at playing the game; just better at finishing the tracks.

Im liking this game picked it up on PS3 with some birthday money i got but i have to say im not very good at it! I hope i get it better, im using the default right stick controls if that matters or not

Ok so got the game, played it for a few hours and enjoying it so far. I'm bad, like shockingly bad on some of the runs but there's something addictive about falling to my death off the same mountain drop off 10+ times in a row.
I played the original games frequently and what I keep pressing by accident is the rewind button, is this a problem other people have had?

What I really need is some special ssx friends from here to play/lose against as I currently have 1 friend, who amazingly is worse than me.
Could I be cheeky and ask you to add me on PS3: jimikill or to throw your gamertags at me so I can prop you up the leader board :)

Havent got this yet but I have fond memories of Tricky...

Is the mad punky woman (voiced by Bif N@ked) still in it?

Also I seem to remember in tricky, there was a few places where you could cut huuuuge corners off the track and the AI would never take them...that still about? I'm sure one of them was a snowy one and you could hook a left through a pile of trees and drop a long way down and it saved going round a long U-bend

I had a problem hitting the rewind button on the first day. After about 5 hours I got down when to press it especially since I use the new controls to do tricks and not classic controls.

Also feel free to add me onto the psn. My id is nightwoolf

what's everyone's experience with rubber banding? or would you say it's pretty true for once. There couple of times I've been 10 seconds ahead literally the next corner I'm only 1.5 secs ahead after using a boost. Perhaps they took the better line but after playing NFS-HP I'm dubious.

I assume you would be on about the AI in the World Tour mode. I say this because you can see the other times that are set by the AI and players alike before even starting a run so it would be technically impossible for them to cheat when the time is pre set before you start your run.

I do believe it is also pre set route each AI player on World Tour will take so there times will always be similar. Easy enough to check this just do a run and see who comes first, second and third each time.

Yet World Tour is basically a giant tutorial so should not be giving you this much trouble heh.

I wouldn't say so no, I'd give it an 8 myself. What's there is brilliant but there's a couple of things I really liked about SSX3 that haven't made it over:

Voice acting - DJ Atomika isn't used as much, the characters have barely any voice acting at all.

Originality - The tracks are very good but they aren't as weird and wonderful as previous games, would have liked to see a bit more influence from the concept art they showed

Competition against other riders instead of against times - Would be nice to be able to do simultaneous races against AI and humans with the knockdown mechanics from previous games, added a bit more excitement to the races.

Customization - I miss being able to have different outfits/hairstyles/gear. There is a little bit here but it's mostly just different coloured stuff rather than interesting alternative outfits.

Judging by that score it sounds like the reviewer enjoyed it about as much as I did. As a general rule it's almost always better to look for the general consensus over individual opinions, with SSX being widely regarded as a very good game. I'd even go as far as saying I can see it to be agood game, it just wasn't what I wanted from SSX.

It's the lack of traditional tracks that I had the biggest problem with, that was half of the character in SSX games completely removed from the new version.
