Coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 on the 2nd March 2012.

Plenty of screenshots and videos on the website.

Personally, I cannot wait for this! We are missing fun arcade sports games on consoles since the demise of the Tony Hawks games. SSX Tricky and SSX3 were 2 of my favorite games from previous generations.

I really hope they keep the less than realistic physics and in your face cartoon fun of the earlier games. The original details back when the game was called Deadly Descents suggested a darker, Call of Duty style to it. That worried me. But it looks like they may have back tracked on that and gone back to doing what they do best, massive flips, tricks and spins, hundreds of feet up in the air, while being chased by an avalanche and racing 7 other boarders leaving glowing twisting trails behind them!

:D

Omg Cool Boarders! I rented that and played it non stop for 3 days!

The problem with the rewind function is it removes part of the challenge. Who hasn't played an SSX game and had a massive epic combo going on, and fluffed up the landing and lost all the points? Or got to the bottom of a 5 minute course and been a couple of thousand points short of the target? I can remember playing some of the harder races or runs multiple times trying to get that one perfect line or time that overtake spot on. Having a rewind means everything will be done on the first play through, as if you fluff up, you just rewind a few seconds, and then carry on.

I dunno, I just think its going to remove some of the challenge being able to just undo any mistakes. Might just be me though, but I definitely preferred games when they were hard, and mistakes were punished. I suppose its to pander to the current teenage console generation where the thought of having to play the same level more than once because they didn't win first time round is unheard of.

Yeah I would hope theres a limit.

Did anyone else used to be able to mash the button combination to pause, go down, click restart level, and confirm on Tony Hawks games so quick the menu never even appeared? I can remember playing those levels over and over again trying to get the perfect line to get some of the items.

The rage from screwing up the landing on an epic combo only served to make it even more rewarding when you finally nailed it.

But sorry, this is just me ranting about rewind being in every game now. I'll shut up.

I've not actually checked that this game has Multiplayer....

Seems to have an auto log style system for storing your runs, and also allow simultaneous MP on the same run for high score competition. No mention of on-line races though, which tbh, is probably a good thing.

SSX... I totally forgot about this back from my PS2 days. One of the first games I got for my PS2. It was an epic game, hours of fun.

didn't know they were to release it for next gen, I do hope they do it justice, but somehow I doubt they will..

But if they do, ooh interest is very high for this one.

They have been through a dodgy patch making games for the PSP and the Wii.

I really hope they keep the same control layout as the earlier PS2 titles (using the 4 shoulder buttons and 'pre-spinning' your jumps). I will be getting it on PS3 in hope.

Release date has slipped to the 2nd March :(

There is free roaming again in this. I liked the ability to do an entire mountain in SSX3. Being able to do it in this, but also have ghosts and scores of friends to beat will be great. I'm hoping for a complete mountain run that lasts 30+ minutes with a global leaderboard for top score.

But there needs to be the closed events too. Racing, tricks, pipes.

Tbh though, any game that takes elements from all 3 previous SSX games is going to be epic.

I'm going to avoid any pre order delivery fails by doing that overlooked and forgotten task of *shock horror* walking into a shop and picking it up off a shelf! :D

Still not on PSN? :(. Looks like the US got it yesterday.

I could get it on 360... but having played all previous games on Playstation, and planning to buy this one on PS3, it feels wrong to play it on anything else, lol.

Does it have the old style controls of prewinding spins and then shoulder buttons for tricks with a tweak button?

The shoulder buttons for tricks comes from the Playstation days. Its the controls I was used to so I shall try them out.

Using face buttons is very much Tony Hawks style. I (bizzarly) used to like the fact they were different.

Really struggling to get my head around the controls. I want to use Classis as I like the shoulder buttons for tricks, but then I instinctively want to use the stick to carve and you cant pre wind with the stick, only the dpad.

Basically doing rubbish with both configurations. I think I'm going to have to have a proper bash with both configs.

Ideal would be Classic with pre spin on the stick.

I only played the demo of Skate, but can see how they have used that style of play. I'm persisting with the face buttons and I'm doing ok (7.5m is my highest score). I just have to remain very concious of what buttons I press when. Its not natural to me yet, but its getting better. I just have a horrible habit of leaving a finger somewhere, either on the stick spinning or on the tweak or something.

As for the whole MP discussion, there are 2 vids in the demo that explain it. There is no live multiplayer race events. Everything is time trials/ghosts. When you play the single player (Explore) you can compete against ghosts of friends. When you play on the Multiplayer (Global Events) you have events setup with rules and post your best score/time in them and then when they finish the money is handed out. You can create you own events for friends, but there is no way to race directly against them. A bit of a shame, but I have gone through SSX, Tricky and SSX3 without any MP at all so I'm sure I will survive.

Right, back to trying to lean these controls.
