*****The Official SSX Thread*****

I've got the limited edition preordered with Game. Will be downloading the demo tonight - looking forward to see whether it's as good as it looks.

No splitscreen and no true simultaneous multiplayer (no more hitting people :() is disappointing, but should still be good.

I'm sure there's simultaneous Mulitplayer, well from the looks of the opening trailer when you start the demo?

Unless that's like some party mode like GTA?

As far as I know there isn't, definitely not on the same console. Listening to their reasons though I can understand why they've gone with the system they have, the grand events look pretty fun and racing against multiple ghosts isn't that different anyway.

it would be nice to have some small simultaneous races though.

Really? Missed that :(

Yeah, there's lots of talk about it online if you search around, but I don't know whether there's been a definitive answer yet.

The general opinion at the moment is that all multiplayer modes use 'ghost' data.. Easiest comparison is probably to Trackmania if you've ever played that. I'm not sure whether the ghosts are real-time, and you just can't collide with them though.

Really struggling to get my head around the controls. I want to use Classis as I like the shoulder buttons for tricks, but then I instinctively want to use the stick to carve and you cant pre wind with the stick, only the dpad.

Basically doing rubbish with both configurations. I think I'm going to have to have a proper bash with both configs.

Ideal would be Classic with pre spin on the stick.

Did you ever give skate a bash?

For me the SSX controls now are a bit like the first few hours on skate where I was mashing triangle to grind things.

I'd stick it out as the two stick thing sort of works better, I think...

I only played the demo of Skate, but can see how they have used that style of play. I'm persisting with the face buttons and I'm doing ok (7.5m is my highest score). I just have to remain very concious of what buttons I press when. Its not natural to me yet, but its getting better. I just have a horrible habit of leaving a finger somewhere, either on the stick spinning or on the tweak or something.

As for the whole MP discussion, there are 2 vids in the demo that explain it. There is no live multiplayer race events. Everything is time trials/ghosts. When you play the single player (Explore) you can compete against ghosts of friends. When you play on the Multiplayer (Global Events) you have events setup with rules and post your best score/time in them and then when they finish the money is handed out. You can create you own events for friends, but there is no way to race directly against them. A bit of a shame, but I have gone through SSX, Tricky and SSX3 without any MP at all so I'm sure I will survive.

Right, back to trying to lean these controls.

Amped is the more obvious comparison for the right stick controls :p

Gameplay wise it's nothing like Skate though, I do wish it was a little less about ridiculous combo's and a bit more about great tricks for trick it though. I'm going down the mountain and I'm barely even aware of what tricks I'm doing, seems a shame when they've designed a control method that seems to be geared towards doing specific tricks.

I've had that same though. SSX has always been about a blur of tricks, but the new control method does lend itself towards doing specific combos.

Got the hang of the new controls now. Also think its party due to the Bulldog course. I'm actually much better at stringing together a more 'fluid' run of tricks on JT2. Too many things to hit and gullys to get stuck in on the trick it run. And that massive piece of ice in the middle, what's that all about? LOL.

SSX is the video game this generation has been missing. The feeble attempts of other, lesser snowboarding games to capture the adrenaline fueled excitement of SSX don’t compare at all. This is what happens when you don’t just put the game out every year, but spend your time crafting it, creating the ultimate experience. SSX redefines snowboarding games, raises the bar for the genre, then backflips over it.

Played the old SSX games back in the PS2 days as with Tony Hawk. Really tempted to give this a go as i've not played both SSX/THPS for years and i'm getting bored of the games I play which just tend to be FPS.

Should I give this a bash?

Try playing THPS then SSX, it's difficult because the controls are similar but different I kept falling over lol

REALLY want to get ssx, but getting a vita monday so need to wait :3 played the race on demo atleast 15 times though such a good game

For those of you asking about the multiplayer modes this is the best video I've seen explaining how it works:

As mentioned its very similar to trackmainia with no collision and 'live' ghosts.

Great demo the quickest I can get down the race drop is 2:08 so far, I've seen a YT video of one guy doing a 1:47 which is nuts.
