I've got around £200 left, I think I'm going to pre-order it. It's a bit risky though as I'm hoping I can get out of the contract and unlock it... :o. If I preorder as soon as I can will I be pretty much guaranteed one at my door on the 11th of July? :).

TBH. Im looking forward to the 2.0 update for the existing iPhones.

It seems all these functions that have been described will be available to both iPhone and the 3G variant.

The only major advantages to me are:
3G
GPS

But these are offset by:

Bigger dimensions.
Less talk time.
Same 2MP Camera.
No 3G Video call.

Think ill hang onto my original iPhone :)

A-GPS allows the iPhone to use the GPS module in a battery efficient mode. Normally a GPS device will take a minute or so to acquire an initial lock on the satellites, using assistance from the cell towers/wifi it can speed up this process by giving the GPS module a smaller area to search. This also means that the module can be switched on and off periodically and still acquire a lock quickly rather than maintaining a constant lock which kills the battery. So it isn't crippled, it's actually a really efficient implementation and it sounds like they will allow applications to access the GPS data.

http://www.me.com is working now :)

Going away on the 12th July, may have to wait out on the 11th to grab one before I go!!

A-GPS is regular GPS that's supplemented by celltower / Wi-Fi information, so the belt and braces approach

Are the dimensions confirmed, because this is what was reported...

11:33 am Apple has learned so much with the first iPhone. They have taken everything they've learned and more and created the iPhone 3G. Even thinner, black plastic back, solid metal buttons, same gorgeous display, camera, flush headphone jack, and dramatically improved audio.

I wasn't bowled over but the 3G is a real buying point for me. EDGE was just too slow and at uni I dont have Wi-fi in my room so a 3G service would be ace, not just in my uni room but also out and about.

GPS I guess is a good feature along with the better battery life but Slogan is right, Apple have been equivocal about the other features. I guess more will be known closer to the release.

Oh and the flush headphone jack was seriously needed!

Still chunkier :P

Might as well use the smaller original iPhone! :P

Feek - I took the dimensions off the official specs from the Apple website.

EDIT: I like how Jobs was trying to poopoo EDGE. Kinda an indirect insult to existing iPhone users :)
