Okay, fine, but how do I tell if my Xbox 360 console has an HDMI port?

All Elite, Halo Edition, and Arcade models come equipped with HDMI port because they were manufactured starting after Zephyr was introduced. The Pro and Core models all have HDMI if they were produced after July 2007, and the best and only way to tell is by looking at the box

Just quoted the relevant bits from http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/22/joystiq-holidaze-explaining-the-xbox-360-skus/. Hopefully this clarifies some stuff.

OK, I'm trying to connect my 360 to my PC on the network and having done the bit on my XBOX I now need to download something from ms.com/pcsetup and can't seem to find it. I've done this before on another PC so I know you need a program running but can't find where to download it.

The xbox site is taking me round in circles :(

Some help would be appreciated :)

Where can I download the PC Setup program?

You are thinking of (I think) the now defunct Windows Media Connect (2), As explained:

2.1 Where can I download Windows Media Connect?
Because Windows Media Connect technology has been improved and incorporated into Windows Media Player 11, the standalone version of Windows Media Connect is no longer available for download.

The media sharing feature in Windows Media Player 11 lets you stream music, pictures, and video from your computer to devices that are connected to your wired or wireless home network. If you already have Windows Media Connect 1.0 or 2.0 installed on your computer, it will automatically be upgraded when you install Windows Media Player 11.

To download Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP, see the Windows Media Player Web site. For more information about media sharing in Windows Media Player 11, see the Sharing your media FAQ.

I know the old program you mean, it scanned your network and let you share folders etc, which you can now do with windows media player 11.

Ahh, thats why I can't find it!

Problem now seems to be that on the XBOX Dashboard I'm on a page that gives me a code that I need to type in when I install Media Centre, however, I've not had anything prompting me to enter a code :(

Why have they got to make this so bloody difficult?

You are doing it the wrong way round.

I just did what I think you are trying to do (view pictures & music from windows media player 11).

-Leave 360 on, (connected to LAN).
-On Windows PC open WMP11 goto Tools>>Options>>Library>Configure Sharing.
-Enable Sharing and "Allow" your 360 (should be detected on this screen).

Now on your 360 goto the Media Tab and pick either Music/Pictures/Video and you should see the machine name of your windows machine (that is the default setting) as the Computer that the 360 is connected to (You may have to press "X" to change sources). I just did the above and viewed Photos from my "My Pictures" folder and streamed Music from my "My Music" Folder.

The utility you are using on the 360 scans your LAN for Media Center PCs (pre vista) I think so I guess this does not work anymore? But the method above seems to work for me. All depends whether you are attempting to setup sharing via WMP11 or though Vista Home Premium/Ultimate or Windows Media Centre Edition 2004/2005.

Can someone please just clarify, now that the 360 supports divx I can play divx files from within the media blade in the dashboard.

But, media centre extender doesn't want to play my divx files. Is this right?

i got an xbox today and thought i'd just report something that i wasn't expecting;

my Netgear RP114 (firmware v3.26 8/17/2001) has passed the Live test, ICMP Confirmed and NAT is Open! fancy that

update:
While it reported no issues during the network test, allowed game/console updates, market place downloads and even use of forza2's auction house, it just wouldn't connect to play games.. I got hold of a WRT54GL which has shown the RP114 to be the fault, for sure.

So for the archive.. The same may well go for other's on the offical incompatible router list. If online play is not a requirement then any folk with such routers may not need to replace them.

Have you tried doing it as per my vague instructions in the post above yours?

If so just provide a few more details of your problem and we will see what is going on. (Or create a new thread?)

Can this be updated to include something about buying a gold subscription with a card etc please. You know, the question that seems to get asked twice a week. :p

It may be old, and I may be one of the lucky ones to purchase it recently for £99.97 but this is a good thread!!!

Thanks for the extra info!
