The old three monitor 1 GPU bit

Hey guys

I'm sure this has been talked about before, but I couldn't find the thread anywhere. I need some advice on a new build.

Bought a P8Z68-V MB & a Gainward Nvidia GTX 570 Phantom. Also running an 850W PSU & an i5 2500k 3.3ghz CPU.

When I got the GPU, I was assured that it would handle three monitors at once. This hasn't turned out to be the case, but that's beside the point. I'm running two VGA monitors & one HDMI TV. When I connected the three monitors to the GPU, I'm informed that the GPU will only power two monitors. Aside from being a little peeved at the company who sold me the card, I then attempted to connect the third monitor to the MB directly, with no success. The monitor isn't even noticed in the computers hardware.

So, my question would be; how the hell can I get this to work?

My GTX570 replaced an 8800 GTX, so I suppose I could insert the old card and have one monitor connected to that, and the other two connected to the GTX570, but I'd rather just harness the power of the one card. What can be done?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks in advance

Yeah Nvidia cards only support 2 outputs at a time sorry! Don't know why they told you otherwise!

I'd suggest maybe putting the 8800 in for the other screen.

If you want to game on all 3 (?) then you'd need another 570 for SLI.

Thanks for the swift response beejjacobs.

I'll bring the PSU back to OCUK and change it for one with more than one GPU adapter

Although, I still dont see why the motherboard wont run one on its own, with the GPU running the other two; that's just peculiar. Any thoughts on that?

(apologies for sounding like a Radio 4 host :P)

My understanding is that the onboard GPU is disabled if you have a dedicated GPU. I may be wrong. Someone else may know! Your PSU is perfectly capable of running both those cards dont worry.

i think with the Z68 mobo, if you install lucid virtu you can run off both GPU and OBV, but been a while since i tried this on mine so cant remember.

That's just what I was about to post about, Lucid Virtu

I'm not entirely sure how it works, but I thought it was that you can use one or the other (on board or GPU) but not both at the same time? I may be wrong

Yeah you need to download the Lucid drivers and set that up, however don't game on the third monitor as you will bottleneck I think cause your GPU usage will be like 100%. Your best exchanging the 570 for a 6950 2GB ;)

you might be right, like i said, been a while since i used lucid

I would be really unhappy if when i get my new set up i can't use the on board video for my secondary monitor. Apart from the SATA3, this is my main reason for getting a new mobo/processor.

Like I say, I have never used it before, I just know that I have the option to use it, so I may be wrong

You need to go into the BIOS and re-enable the IGP if you connect it to your motherboard. Sure it won't allow all three to use the 570's power but it will still do what you want.
