I think its done with filter on Ps, i remember making something with abstract wavy rings using lens flare chrome ripple(?) and something else

Yup.

Take an image, compress it down to say 400 <-> and then dabble about with it.

Maybe add some more layers over it, use some drop shadows and see where it gets you.
 
The sig I am using now has 6 layers intotal. Dont know how, but I have sort of got the effect I was after. I really wanted to have the right side of the image blended in a little more to the darker gradient background.. I shall have a little play now.

my sig was done using lens flares, and then using different filters and blends, but for some sigs i use the pen tool to create swirly lines. just using the mouse, pen tool takes a lot of practice though, i still suck at it but am getting better.

Hi matey...Can I have a sig please matey? Don't mind what the background is, not that picky, what ever is easy for you to do, but can i have '.kencs' on it please in the bottom right hand corner...?
