The Outer Worlds (Obsidian)

I've spent a bit of time with this game so far, from my angle it's got a lot going for it, and I'm enjoying it more than I ever did FO4.

The only slight negative is that the quests aren't all that interesting, mainly seems to be go here, kill stuff, come back. Witcher 3 showed me that it was possible to have decent side quests in a game.

I also don't know why they don't voice the main character.

What I can say is that the game plays well for what it is, the perks and skills are interesting, and the environments look great (to me). So I will definitely stick it through to completion.

Yeah agree about Witcher 3, I used to be fine with the usual side quests until that showed how well it can be done. That's one of the reasons I didn't enjoy Fallout 4 having just played Witcher 3 before it.

Also, I'd rather have a well designed and voiced character rather than the whole design your own character thing, but that's a personal preference I guess.

I am enjoying this though.

Anyone else think that there are major Kaylee from Firefly vibes from one of the companions? Reckon that's deliberate, given the setting has similarities too?

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm looking forward to a second play-through in which I intend to be a complete evil bstard.

Enjoying it but the slow downs are so annoying. Certain areas just run like crap and every new area you enter you have wait for it to load, then when you think it's fully loaded you move the mouse and framerate drops 30fps while it loads something else.

It's not a deal breaker, just highly annoying.

Not had any of those issues myself. Specs?

I started this morning and already about 6 hours in. I wasn't really sure about it and then realised I'd played through lunch and beyond without realising. Sign of a good game IMO. I started on Normal but it's been a bit easy really. I might restart on hard before I get any further in.

I didn't like the voiced character in Fallout 4

Much prefer the Fallout 3/New Vegas/Outer Worlds Way of doing it.

Fair enough, its definitely a personal preference thing. Though I would say that it wasn't exactly done well in FO4, so that didn't help.

I don't think its just about whether the main character speaks, but whether they actually design a main character. Though I know somebody prefer that 'they' are the main character themselves or whatever.

Just started the game tonight.

I'm going for a sneaky/conversationalist style build with the sciences not too far behind. Weak as a kitten physically though, hopefully that wont come back to bite me too badly outside of the carry weight problems.

Enjoying it so far, I'm definitely getting a bit of a New Vegas vibe so far which is a huge plus. Hopefully it stays that way and doesn't move into the FO4 realm, I absolutely loathed that game outside of the Far Harbor DLC.

Its a pretty viable build. I poured no points into melee or dodge and stuff and can easily power through things. Neat thing is, your companions specialties also add to your points in areas so can make up shortfalls.

i4790k / RTX2080

Gears 5 is silky smooth but this? Some areas 144fps, great, others 50-60fps with not a lot going on.

Terra 2 runs like crap as well as other locations, there is also a large battle which takes place on Monarch between two NPC sides and it was around 40-50fps, made aiming very tricky.

Strange. What res are you playing at? Capped framerate?

My rig is in my sig and I'm playing at 4K but not noticed any slow downs or loading waits as you've described.

Nothing special, 1440p, capped to 144fps. Lots of people complaining about similar issues on their forums.

Maybe it's not well optimised for older quad core CPU's, I really don't know. When I enter any level you can visually see the textures being loaded in around you, feels badly optimised to me.

The game's combat is incredibly easy even with zero skill points in any combat skill.
