The Pascal GTX 1070 Owners Thread

I have the G1, very lite to hold..almost like a toy lol...I dont use the extreme software it came with though..and out of the box it boosts to 1945MHz...but I did notice that at and above 60c it seems to clock down to 1936MHz, for me it does anyway .

And @adger1971 , I myself have had no issues with temps at all...even when we had those pretty hot days :)

Thanks for the advice mate, much appreciated.
Wonder why it clocks down to 1936Mhz?
Does anybody else have the same issue with the G1?
Thanks all

Nothing strange about it. I'd take the MSI over the AMP Extreme any day, even if I had to pay a bit more. Zotac's coolers are huge, ugly and come with fans (and fan controllers) of questionable quality. I've read about the same "revving" issue that plagued the 980 Ti AMP Extreme rearing its head again, and as somebody sensitive to noise it completely removed them from contention for me. Their raw cooling performance may be amazing (and you'd want it to be with a heatsink of that size), but there are more important quality of life issues to consider for me personally.

In fairness you can't hear the AMP extreme at all , even the revving, when you have sound on in a game. When not in a game, it is silent as the fans are at zero and once the fans are on, likewise you cant really hear them, so it really isn't a big issue. I still agree that the Twin Forzr is the better cooler though, just not £40-£50 better. In fact having said that if the 1070 was lower priced to start with I might have shelled out an extra £40 but it is too expensive as it is so I'm damned if I am going to spend anymore money on one!:p

I got the Zotac for the fact that its got a good clock on it, it has 5 years warranty, RBG lighting for fit enduing fun.... also it was cheap! :D

Remember to register it for the 5 year warranty! :)

^^ OCUK cover the 5 year warranty on the ZOTAC, according to this post by Gibbo.

In my experience OcUK handling the RMA just leads to a little bit cheaper postage;nothing else fo major benefit. I'd rather buy from manufacturers who provide a UK/EU RMA base and have reasonable turnaround times. That seems to just be Gigabyte and EVGA. Ofcourse, you do pay a premium for this.

Those who sold their old cards early, I now see why you did it.

My 970 on fleabay dropped the price 4 times already and still no interest. In the past whenever I stuck a gpu on there its sold within 24 hours. What I had planned for the card to cover 40-50% of my 1070 cost is now probably going to be 25%.

Exactly.

If you guys do not mind running a custom fan profile with afterburner then the revving issue is not an issue. You get a beastly cooler, 5 year warranty and it is cheaper :)

Even in this room which is 25c, I played Just Cause 3 for a few hours earlier and maintained 2100MHz+ core speed and 9200MHz memory without going past 62c. Though majority of the time the temperature was 60c. All this with the fan not being heard over the volume of the game.

More I use this card, the more I get impressed :D

Which are good makes to go for on the 1070 guys ? Will likely run at stock

Zotac AMP seems to be a particular favourite given the excellent value for money and 5 yr warranty. You'll need to change the fan profile in afterburner for optimal noise though, and RMA turnaround time isn't brilliant if that's something you take into account.

EVGA ACX and MSI Gaming edition are the quietest, but also the priciest. You could also consider the MSI Armor card, but I've not been able to find any reviews on this.

My MSI got a driver crash in Rise of the Tomb Raider oc'd to about 2076mhz just as I was exiting the game (it crashed in the menu:p).

Seems I've not only lost some money since the card got cheaper just after I'd bought one but I've also got a pretty poor clocker. Hoped for around 2100mhz stable:(

Definitely had a bit more luck with the 970:p

Don't think you can call anything around 2050 a poor clocker

Oops, I think it crashed at around 2088, must've gone a bit overboard with Afterburner, dropped the memory to +600 from +700 and knocked off 5mhz from the core. Maybe it'll go better this time:p

Thanks for the info mate. I bet all of them run cooler and less noise than my MSI 290x. It's like a hair dryer under load

All right, my max stable overclock so far is constant 2076mhz and +600 memory. Not bad but not too brilliant. The boost clock behaves weirdly, though. If I push 5mhz more from what I have now, it jumps from 2088mhz to 2126mhz:eek: in the main menu (never boosts to that in game).

Temps in RotR were usually around 64-66 but jumped to 68-69 occasionally during heavier scenes (it's quite hot here today), almost constant 60fps with some relatively minor dips to anywhere between 50-60.

Overall, still rather happy with the card, especially regarding temps and noise (or rather lack thereof:p)
