The Pascal GTX 1080 Owners Thread

I have 23 days to step-up from my 980 Ti to an EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 ACX 3.0 - no costs but shipping. All I want to know is (lol) about any sag due to the aluminium bits on the plastic of the new cooler?

Disappointed the Gigabyte Extreme that I preordered doesn't have a backplate. Looks to be the only one that doesn't!

Edit:
Just read the article, the retail version will have a backplate after all.

Edit2:
In fact a Gigabyte rep leaked some photos of the backplate in the comments.

Oh my Gosh. I don't know what brand of card to order?
Quite like the look of the Zotac amp extreme. This card will have to last me for the next 4 years as I'm on a 4 year upgrade cycle.
My 680 cannot play games at 4k.

Joker got 98.5% for his 1080. Mental.

GPU-Z can't read Pascal ASIC properly yet. 98.5% is probably impossible as well. I don't think I've ever seen a card above 90.

I think ASIC % does play a part on newer GPU's, a lot of the higher ASIC ones seem to clock better and remain stable on air.

Once you're cooling it properly though, overvolting or flashing the BIOS it makes next to zero difference.

Good review... I used the 4k results to rule out any CPU, looks like the 1080 is average 20-25% faster than 980ti when both OC, some games more and couple of odd results.

If coming from 970 or 980 and 1440 or lower I would go for the 1070, at 3440 or 4k the 1080 or keep 980ti and wait for a bigger upgrade. As my 980ti is gone I will get 1080, I wish the 1080 was less and am not 100% happy with the upgrade due to the MSRP, but still the 1080 is a very nice card and I am looking forward to getting one. Also lower TDP = less heat and noise etc is nice.

Good plan. If it does sag, use a bit of fishing line to take the weight.

Yeah for no additional costs other than shipping, seemingly, it's a no brainer. Hmm yeah the black threaded lines are usually good.

Anyway, gonna look up some trusty reviews for 980 Ti vs 1080. Less Cuda cores though on the 1080.

If any good things come into the vendors during my downtime I'll use my i5-6600K iGPU lol - stutter fest so I'll need an escort.

That gigabyte card looks ridiculous, does it come with a couple of steel girders to prop it up inside the case? No back plate, which does little to mitigate sagging anyway, really needs some kind of brace along the top to minimise card sag.

It has a backplate, read the link comments, do you really think a £600+ card is not going to have a backplate.

And as for sagging, why not wait and see if its stupidly heavy and might sag.

Well unless they've somehow managed to make it lighter than the last g1 980 ti its a certainty to sag. This is taking up close to three slots from word doing the rounds so id be amazed if it has no sag.
