I could have sworn they were taking "install other OS" away from all PS3s via firmware 3.0. But I can't find any info confirming it.
I wonder what the Japanese press are making of the PS3 Slim. Will it fly off the shelves and match Wii sales now, I wonder?
Its only on the Slim, i had linunx on my old 60Gb used it a few times but not very often it was more to play around with linux rather than anything else. I guess it will stop people ripping BD to hard drive now though and perhaps to make it more secure from pirates.

I'm still using a launch day 60GB here, but I'm reserving judgement on the styling of the slim until I actually see it (in person)
I'd consider using the slim if my launch day broke, or if the elec savings are substantial. Noise isn't a factor to me as it'll be located in a AV rack soon enough. I do hope they didn't skimp on internal components though

I havn't read much about the slim version, my question is it more quite than the normal one.? As my ps3 seems to be more noiser than my m8's one.

Well like i posted earlier the average power consumption of the PS3 60 GB is close to 180W the slim is 74W. So for say 3 hrs a day 360 days a year the 60GB PS3 uses 194 units, the Slim used for the same time would use 80 units.
I think they've changed the default one, too. Instead of just having the ribbon, it's got loads of particle/spark things flying around. And also rather than booting up with "Sony Computer Entertainment" it now has the new PS3 logo.
Well I've just called around all the local stores and big name places trying to get a fat ps3 at the new price and guess what they don't want to know about it.. Still £299 mate.

Not until September 1st for firmware 3.0.
Funny nearly all the online sites have it now at £249 with either a couple of games or a game and a BD, only place i cant see a change is a mostly music dvd store. I would tell them to check there own websites lol.

I don't think you will see many PS3 for less than that. Shops haven't been able to order them for a short while already. I think the best you will get is £250 with 4 cheap games that no one wants
