****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

Anyone able to calculate the energy savings on using a slim over a phat, for say 2hrs of play per day?

I mean if it saves you 50quid a yr on leccy then it's definitely worth getting one.

Maybe i'll sell my 40gig and get a Slim instead.. Was hoping it would be backward compatible, so i can occasionally play my PS2 classics, but since its not i'm focusing on the energy savings instead..

A good noise test would be running Fifa09 or Fight Night Round 4, as these two games seem to make my existing 40gig ps3 fans run at full pelt !

360 owners. OH NO HE DIDNT :D

What amuses me is the torrent of Sony fangirls that ridiculed the XBox 1 for being bulky and then boasted that the PS3 was "Heavy, large, monolithic, and felt expensive due to its weight."

But then that's why fangirls are amusing, regardless of what camp they're in.

Here goes, assuming a 60GB model that uses 200W and the Slim that uses 74W

two hours a day means 252Wh difference which is ~8kWh a month, at a price of 20p per kWh (don't live in the UK) that is a saving of 160p a month or just under 20 quid a year, whoopie :p

Compared to a 40GB model the saving is just under 7 quid a year :o

This is assuming 2 hours a day, if you use it 4 hours a day you can double the savings, also if the kWh price is different that influences the saving.

lol @ cheapie leccy monitors

I suffer with "wanteverymodelitus" and will probably grab one at some point.

Besides it means the misses can watch the crappy bluray movies we get on lovefilm in a different room to me. Whoopage!

Picked it up for £250 (PS3 Fat), traded in Killzone 2 (Part of the Bundle) and 4 360 controllers and it came to a bargain price. Also picked up COD:WAW and an additional DS3 Controller.

I think i read you can now sync the PS3 up with Bravia TV's so would i beable to use my TV remote to operate Blu Ray's without the need to buy a dedicated remote?

Read that to, but there are no dedicated buttons for play, forward etc. on my remote

You can setup that the PS3 shuts down when you turn off the LCD but that isn't really that useful.

I think this feature (from what I read) is only the new slim, and it is used to control the XMB (not sure if this allows control of the blu ray feature), but I am hoping for this feature to find its way onto other models as it would be handy to have all the features and the XMB control from the remote.

I can see the new remote feature being annoying since it shuts down the ps3 when the tv shuts down. I hope at least a window prompt comes up to confirm, otherwise it would be easy to turn both off by mistake.

Glad I have the blu-ray remote.

It's nice that they've reduced the cost but it looks it. (Cheap and tacky I mean.) The fat PS3 looks like and all round mediacentre. Where the slim looks like just a standard console.
