****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

I sold my PS3 on th'bay for £210 with £14 P&P.

I'd have traded it if I had the chance, but "that store" won't price match as there is no competitor in Swansea. Quite annoying.

Hope the slim ships early now :o

thing with the bay though is the buyer can easily say nothing was in the box apart from a few bricks, and request a paypal refund and you will be stuck :(

so i just rang 2x stores to try and trade in my 60gb ps3, they both offered £125 or half price of the new one - i mentioned somewhere offered more and they just said to sell the console privately - no idea how or why anyone is being offered £198 from the same chain elsewhere in the country.

do it on there website

Playstation3 60GB Boxed (PS2 Comp.)
Playstation3 Consoles
We buy for : £159.00
Give exchange : £198.00

I wonder if they'd still give the same price if the blu-ray laser has been newly replaced?

I have a feeling BC will come back in software emulation if Sony wants to sell PS2 games over PSN in the future. I just hope if BC does come back I'll able play PS2 games from original DVDs
Very unlikely they will allow PS2 software emulation by disc if they eventually put it in - no profit if you are just using PS2 titles you already own - having to pay for them again via PSN means a nice profit margin to exploit...

They do allow software BC for PS1 games on disk or download too though. Ultimately it's a selling point of the console, PS2 owners will be more eager to upgrade if they know their entire back catalogue of games is still playable. Also there'd still be people buying PS2 games off the PSN, just as they do with PS1 games.

ahh found them, never heard of them before!

do they sell new stuff, i dont want to trade in for a 2nd hand ps3!!
Seriously Nickg if you havent figured out what to do by now its impossible to help further considering the forum rules...

Thats only half of the puzzle...

Ultimately if the PS2 upgrade market had been so important to Sony they wouldnt have removed BC in the first place, outside of costs on your reasoning they would have lost an important demographic. I just dont think Sony, now, see it that way - theyve sold PS1 games on PSN which people are buying (irrelevant if they have them on disc already) so it seems reasonable to assume theyll do the same on PS2 and not necessarily add the additional functionality of running PS2 from disc. If I was them I wouldnt - serving the PS2 upgrade crowd now seems a major afterthought...

Isn't the PS2 still outselling the PS3? In which case you should all be able to understand their stand point from a business perspective ;)

They sell 2nd hand goods ONLY. You will have to take the cash from them and pay the difference for a new PS3 elsewhere, or hope that another place matches their trade value, who also sell new PS3s and put your trade value against that.

I doubt anyone can say more than that without upsetting the mods.

Here's some numbers I managed to dig up. It's just on movie playback with DVD and BluRay, they didn't have any numbers for gaming.

DVD Playback
PS3 Slim: 42.0c / 75w
PS3 60GB: 45.0c / 153w

Results: 3.0c heat reduction, 50.98% lower power consumption

BluRay Playback
PS3 Slim: 38.5c / 86w
PS3 60GB: 47.0c / 160w

Results: 8.5c heat reduction, 46.25% lower power consumption

I rang up a gaming store and asked if they can match the £198 of a store that Sells, Trades or gives cash for electrical items and they said yes they would. Great. I may just do that. :D

I'll just have to back my harddrive up now and we have a winner.

£52 for a new slim is better than the £140 odd pounds I hear Sony charge to repair 60gb PS3s. That is if Sony will even fix 60gbs anymore. It'll be nice peace of mind.

Mine would only match the cash trade in price - £159.

Hence me selling my PS3 on the MM just a couple of hours ago for £185.

Launch day slim, here I come! :)

Haven't read the whole thread but I also have a 60GB launch day PS3 still going strong, fully boxed up etc. The only thing that's stopping me really from selling it on and going for a PS3 slim is the fact that I do not want to lose the data on the HDD. So, is it 'easily' possible to back up/save/copy the HDD data (most importantly my SF4 data) and then transfer it to a new PS3 slim.

Also, when I log into my PSN account I have had my password saved, so haven't manually typed it in for over 2 years therefore will have most likely forgotten it by now. How do I get my password! :o

edit: I'm sure my questions are already answered in the thread so will have a proper read tomorrow, well later today. Should have mentioned I don't mind re-downloading demos and games it's mainly my SF4 saved data, grade points, etc which I do not wish to lose.

If I backup my PS3 to my 16gb M2 card I wonder if I'll be able to restore my data to the Slim with a card reader.

This looks good.. Black to go with the slim it's a card read and USB hub combined. Nice for space saving. Anyone have one of them?
